There's a difference between a topic and a proposition. Topics are just vague subject matter, more
of a category really, whereas propositions are declarative statements which can then be critically
assessed. I think when people go to "Start your debate" and it asks for their "topic" it may give
them the impression that simply saying "Gun Control" for example is good enough since that's a
category often debated. Meanwhile the rest of us, a little more seasoned, are pitching and
responding to debate propositions.
One last thing while we're on the subject, should it technically be "For or Against" instead of "For
and Against", because you're one or the other, you're not both at the same time? You're actually
asking the site's members whether they're For OR Against something.
I KNOW, I DIDN'T MEAN TO! I WAS THINKING ABOU THE WHOLE NEGATIVE SIDE OF THINGS AND THEN REALISED JUST AFTER I PRESSED SUBMIT THAT I WAS ON THE WRONG SIDE! XD
