Unfortunately it is difficult to keep the problem of aids to the fore and the same goes for drugs.
People get complacent and the authorities get hooked on policing the world. Anything but the
problems they should focus on. |

AIDS/HIV is not a fad, That is completely the wrong word to use. It suggests it was fashionable
to have AIDS, the "in thing", this was, and is, never the case. For obvious reasons.
I think I do understand what you are saying though. You just about make yourself clear at the end.
Are you saying that the media's, and therefore the public's attention is on AIDS but it will soon
pass as yesterdays news even if the problem won't? If so this has already happened to a certain
extent. AIDS was "big news" in the late 1980's/early '90's because it was a new thing to us, it
started to affect people in the public eye like Freddie Mercury, Kenny Everret, Rock Hudson etc.
Since then the problem has been brought under control to a degree with the advance of new drugs in
the West. Unfortunately not so in other places in the world as Chispa quite rightly points out.
But for the headline writers that is not quite so interesting and attention grabbing so AIDS is not
a topic on everyone lips anymore.
That's not to say it shouldn't be as it is still a problem of epidemic proportions, perhaps even
more so when it was "En Vogue". |

I think it is boilogical warfare... Like many of the diseases. The government(s) way to try to
control the population...
Prove me wrong. |

HIV is a world wide problem not just a fad
people have to bare in mind the billions of people suffering from HIV
nothing is really being done about it with education and prevention only going so far |

AIDS is a “fad”? Tell that to the millions of people suffering from it and the grieving families
of the millions of its victims.
Time was, in the U.S., the joke was “AIDS is the answer to the cowboys’ prayer.” In other
words, “real men” were happy that homosexuals were dying off. No one makes that joke now …
Yes, AIDS is declining in the West, but in Russia, China, and the Third World, it continues to be
epidemic. One-third of Botswana’s adults are infected, and it has caused the life expectancy rate
in Zambia to plummet to the mid-30s.
Is anyone still laughing about this “fad” now?
As for the idea that the fight against AIDS will soon drop out of the public eye, this is as untrue
as it is offensive. Depression -- which some say is another fad disease -- is rarely fatal, while
AIDS always is. |
