I really doubt that even though he wanted to join the war Roosevelt would purposely have his people
killed as a excuse to join the war. I am guessing though that when it happened he jumped on it like
a tiger. |

Quite a few historians have expressed the view that the Pearl Harbour attack was deliberately
provoked by Franklin Roosevelt as a way to get the United States into the Second World War despite
the isolationist instincts of its people. In fact, this is now pretty much proved beyond any
reasonable doubt, though it hasn't yet filtered through into popular consciousness.
If you do a Google search on the term "McCollum memorandum" you will find a document setting out a
number of steps which Roosevelt planned to follow to goad Japan into attacking America. All of these
were followed and the attack eventually came about. Read the book "Day of Deceit" by Robert Stinnett
if you want to know more.
There is also a second strand of this conspiracy theory which holds that Roosevelt knew specifically
that the attack was coming to Pearl Harbour on December 7th and chose not to pass the information on
to those at the base. This relies mainly on the argument that the Japanese communications were being
intercepted and their codes broken, so Roosevelt must have known. |

The fundamental flaw in blaming Roosevelt for Pearl Harbor is it ignores Japanese history itself in
the decade preceding the attack. Japan was expanding militarily on all fronts in the Pacific, was
jabbing hard into China, and had no other power standing in its way in the Pacific except for the
US. Japan's attack on our main Pacific fleet was inevitable even if a different person had been our
President. |
