Yes they should, Because if parents do not allow their kids to drink at the age of 16, there going
to do it more, outside the house. Which could get them into trouble with the police. |

By soft alcohol, do you mean lower alcohol concentration? If so, that sounds reasonable so long as
there is a strict, computer-enforced limit on how much alcohol may be purchased in X amount of time. |

So should HARD liquor. |

I think you're right. The current tabboo on under age drinking only enforces the desire for some to
go out and get drunk on cheap booze. Introducing it early on in small quantities, with a meal or
something similar stops the "forbidden fruit" mentality and in theory, drinking huge amounts alcohol
could consequently become less popular. There would need to be restrictions of course about how much
an individual could buy at any one time and it would need to be made clear what "soft" alcohol is,
but it could prove to be beneficial. |

In Germany 16 years old are allowed to have anything under 15%. Since their parents do not act as
strict about it, they learn their limits pretty fast and they become responsible with it. As
helenbobby said, teenagers are eager to find out about the unknown and rebel as a result of
developing there own opinion about things. If alcohol was treated like its not that special,
teenagers wont have that much of an urge to get it every chance they get. PLUS, whether you are 16
or 18 or 21 when you start drinking and become alcoholic does not make a big difference, because is
not like your personality develops a rational way about drinking as you grow up and you've never
tried it before. The sooner you try it, the better, and if teenagers are found to become alcoholics,
it is easier to save them at an early age! |

Teenagers need to be taught how to drink responsibly before they can legally drink and binge
themselves silly, get aggressive, and then end up with alcohol poisoning.
But i think there should be a definite limit of where they can drink |

Yes there should and maybe there wouldn't be so much under age drinking it doesn't have to be strong
but hey it wouldn't hurt once a alcoholic was born a alcoholic |

I think this is quite a good idea.
In the Netherlands 16 year old are allowed to drink. This means that they go down to the pub
together, not get wasted cause they have to take the tram to get back home.
The more laws and restrictions put upon teenagers, the more they are going to rebel.
That is why there are so many illegal 'home parties' in the US. Imagine having to wait until your
21?? What a joke. It will get to the point when they turn 21, they'll just drink and drink and not
know when to stop. |

They tried this in Ohio .. In the 70's and 80's but the age was 18. Didn't work like you think it
will. Sorry. Won't happen, Bad idea. 16 year old are not ready for that.. Hell most adults aren't
ready for that look at all the dui's! Nope. Sorry kid, they already tried it and it didn't fare well |

If you want to familiarize your kids with alcohol let them drink under your house under your direct
supervision. Watch them, learn from them, see how they react. Form a conclusion about the mixture of
them and alcohol. If your a minor ask your parents sincerely if you can have a drink. State you case
reasonably and honestly. If everyone is responsible and reasonable you can have a few to acclimate
yourself to the world of alcohol. No danger involved. If your parents are total douchers than get
shztfaced at a friends and take a dump on a squad car. Tell your parents they drove you too it. |

Alcohol should not be permitted to 16 year olds, you really think a respectable system would in
effect conduct a scheme which introduces alcohol on stages to get you used to it we should promote
not drinking it rather than induction schemes such as you are suggesting. And why 16hy not soft
alcohol should be permitted to 18 year olds and stronger to 21's to get them used to it. Children
should be children. I know everyone goes through the stage where the drink to excess but lets think
of a scheme which promotes that being later in life rather than when you are a child. If they set
the age at 18 its sure that 13 14 year olds would get access this is not right. We should be loking
for other things for our kids to do we should make solutions to problems not just give in to them.
Does this mean because alot of ppl try drugs we should make them all available in the shops your
suggestion just highlights what society has become we have become so bored as a nation that all we
think there is to do is get drunk maybe this is true but the solution should be to create more
activities not get everyone wasted and may i ask why 16 why not 14 or 13 is there a reason why you
choose 16? |

I don't quite understand the notion that children reach an age where they drink excessively.
Youngsters brought up in some countries have wine with all the family at the dinner table, where
responsible adults can monitor the behavior, teach their children the folly and let them learn to
respect for alcohol. |

I herd you were allowed to drink with your parents, as long as they're with you when your drunk, i
have no idea if its true or not but my friends come over every once in a while for special occasions
and my mom buys a little bit of something for us and acts like she doesnt know she bought it, 16
c'mon that's like 4..plus one is 5 yeah 5 years you can wait, and i agree with the more laws and
restrictions the more we will rebel, but geez just wait, hell its not even that good anyway |

I don't agree because I know that once they get a taste of something "soft" they will want something
that gives them more of a buzz. I am a teenager, and i hear people talking about their parties and
how much alcohol they had. Their life is just based on the idea "whatever feels good, do it" |

First off, alcohol is addictive, no matter how 'soft' it is. Teenagers are a bit irresponsible, and
giving them alcohol would not not be a good idea.
Take for instance the Amish practice of rumspringa. They set out their teenagers into the outside
world in which they do not have to abide by their strict parents rules.
The parents hope by experiencing the evils of the outside world they will come back. Not all do.
The reason for that is because most of the teenage populace is not incredibly responsible, as
stated above.
So, no. The legal American age should stay, If not be moved up. |

Hmmmm "aleman". 16 years old are at the most irresponsible age of all. I don't see the merit in
this sort of a measure. There are plenty of alcoholics that start at younger ages, because they get
a head start doesn't mean they will be more responsible. I just don't see how this would help
anything at all. |
