Women Should Be Allowed To Give Birth Alone
I recently watched a programme about women choosing to give birth.. Alone.. At home with no medical care what so ever throughout the whole of the pregnancy. Shouldn't they make use of the midwifery services instead of potentially risking the lives of themselves and their babies? And they wouldn't they only have themselves to blame if something went wrong? What do you think?

The majority of complications are CAUSED BY medical intervention. Back when we didn't drug Mothers there was no need for intervention. Now, interventions are tenfold what they are in some other developed countries? A few years back, the c-section rate in this country was a shamefully large large number. These emergency surgeries are caused by drugs such as Pitocin and other non-necessary pharmaceuticals. I didn't need any of that. I gave birth naturally, stood, walked, showered, cared for my baby - was in good spirits and wide awake - not so groggy that I couldn't even hold my new baby!

Educate yourselves people!!!

Yeah, who wants to watch that. In fact, I think it should be mandatory. And then she should go cook some dinner.

It's smart in the majority of cases to have emergency help nearby.

BUT

It's not unnatural for a woman to have a baby by herself, ironically, it's more unnatural to force her to go to a hospital.

It should be the woman's choice. It still hope she will choose to have the help, but who are we to tell her and nature they are wrong?

Child birth is no place for a man. A woman should not be on her own, logic tells me someone should be present who would know what to do if there were any problems, how about a mid wife?

Suicide is illegal.
If the mother died by her own means its suicide.
Thus giving birth alone is considered dangerously suicidal which is illegal.

 Throughout history, more people have lived giving birth then died. That is irrational fear mongering if you think a women cannot manage without doctors and hospitals. I don't think the original debate said "totally alone" or meant that the person was a lone, just without medical care. Without medical care is completely doable...has been for centuries.

I have worked in labor/delivery, and have seen emergencies occur during or after childbirth that would probably cost both mom and baby their lives if they were at home (especially alone, omg!) I'm not talking about women who came in high-risk - these were women who had "perfect" pregnancies.

As a nurse, I feel that the mother would be taking a needless and careless risk with the lives of herself and her baby - and for what? I am all for going the holistic route in many areas, but this is too much - it's extremely dangerous. Anything can happen.

If she has a post-delivery hemorrhage and starts to bleed out, she's in dire trouble - and hopefully could call 911 before losing consciousness from blood loss.

There are so many other horrible scenarios I could describe, but I think you get my point, so I'll save it.

Is this advisable? What about difficult births? What if something went seriously wrong? I would always agree that it's more advisable to have someone with expert medical knowledge on standby! I'd say the safest place is in a maternity ward for the first one see how that goes?

 Yes i agree with you.. if something went wrong.. and they chose to give birth at home alone.they really would only have themselves to blame.
