Yes, ESPECIALLY IF YOUR BLACK, because SO many people are deficient in vitamin D, and if someone is
susceptible to skin cancer wear sunscreen, and COVER yourself, FRESH air (depending where you
live), but still this is a blanket statement and can not be applied to everyone |

I agree. Too many people are stuck in offices 40 hours per week and children are stuck in school all
day. People are not getting what they need from the sun. During weekends is not enough. Spending
some time in the sun daily is actually very healthy for you. Schedules these days do not permit us
to get the sun we need. I think it should be a requirement for schools and jobs to allow you an hour
out of the work day to spend in the suns rays. |

I agree with this statement. The news and media wants to make being out in the sun such a bad thing,
but in truth, the sun supplies vitamins that are essential to your well being. It also makes you
look a lot better to have a healthy glow to your skin, instead of being sickly pale. |

True! Vitamin D is a healing chemical that our body produces when it comes in contact to sunlight.
Vitamin D helps your body fight against obesity, breast cancer, depression, prostate cancer and many
other diseases. The rays of sunlight that activate production of Vitamin D in your body are blocked
by glass and sunscreen lotions also block these rays up to 95%.
Now, Vitamin D will only be produced if we spend some time in the sunlight as this is one nutrient
that is very hard to get out of your diet. Supplements for Vitamin D exist but sunlight is the only
authentic source of Vitamin D. These facts are not commonly advertised because no company is gaining
out of them and advertising these facts will greatly affect sunscreen sales. |

Yes, spending time in the sun is important because that is how the body gets Vitamin D. Vitamin D is
the only vitamin that is not normally acquired through food, although it is possible to take Vitamin
D supplements.
There is research suggesting that many people, particularly those living in northern latitudes, lack
sufficient Vitamin D. In cold, cloudy climates it may be that even averagely active people simply
are not exposed to enough sunlight to generate the Vitamin D the body requires. Some believe that it
is this, rather than excessive drinking or unhealthy diets, which accounts for the higher incidence
of heart attacks in places like Scotland.
Many of us could benefit from more exposure to the sun. However, with the depletion of the ozone
layer, the strength of the sun's rays sometimes becomes dangerous. In certain parts of the world,
where the ozone has been badly depleted, people really need to make strenuous efforts to avoid the
sun because of fears about skin cancer. |

I think that we should spend more time in the sun. However, I think we should do it in a safe and
healthy way. It has been proven that people who do not see the sun a lot tend to get depressed more.
We can see this a lot during the winter months. When we spend time in the sun, we do a lot of fun
things that are beneficial for our health. For example, we swim, play sports, relax, and walk. These
are all activities that can be healthy for us. Therefore, I agree that we should spend much more
time in the sun. |

I think we all should spend more time in the sun. Being outdoors in general is great for physical
and mental health. Too many people are spending their time sitting indoors on the computer, playing
video games or watching TV. Less and less children are playing in summer sports because of laziness
or their parents are buying them too many indoor play items.
Sunblock is made for those who wish not to get skin problems, but tanning lotion is made for those
of us who enjoy a little tan. Yes, it is proven that too much sun can lead to skin cancer or other
problems, but it is also important for our mental health to feel good about ourselves. I see
nothing wrong with a person carrying a tan because they wanted it... I tan in a tanning bed in the
winter and lay in the sun in the summer. I adore the sun, and I know the effects. When I'm not
carrying a tan, I get down on myself... It's not for other people... It's for me. But when I do
carry a tan, I have more self esteem and a more positive outlook on myself and my life. |

If by spending more time in the sun you mean excercising and doing some productive things, then yes
- I am all for it. The one negative aspect of spending more time in the sun that I can think of is
tanning. On the negative, Mackenzie brings up an interesting argument of perspectives on beauty,
which is, I suppose, a relevant point. But tanning, though it may be considered beautiful, is a
defensive mechanism employed by skin cells to protect themselves from extended exposure to UV
radiation. When you get a tan, it means your skin cells are getting too much radiation. So yes,
spend more time outside in the sun doing fun things and relaxing, but remember to wear sunscreen. |

Spending time in the sun reduces chance for Season-Affective Disorder, and helps the body produce
Vitamin D.
I agree that tanning should not be a hobby of anyone's. It's asking for skin cancer. But spending
more time in the sun does not have to mean tanning. Especially if one takes precautions and wears
sunblock and covers up sensitive body parts.
In a metropolitan setting especially, and even in suburbs of kids growing up--technology has kept
people on their couches or computer chairs for hours. People get in their cars and drive up the
street instead of walking.
Undoubtedly 50 years ago people were outside in the sun on a regular basis much more than they are
today. Walking was just something that was not really questioned. Even with gasoline prices up as
high as they are, driving is still something we do excessively. I think we all could go and spend
more time in the sun. |

I am against it completely
We should not be in the sun for too long and if you are then you need to protect yourself and put
sun lotion on so u don't get burned
It's OK if you wanna get a tan but also better to get it sprayed on or if you wear sun lotion, its
easier that way |

Are you people all high?!
Ever heard of CARCINOMA? Helllooooo.
More people die each year of skin cancer from the sun than all other cancers combined.
Slather up the SPF, baby ;-)
And put on your dark sunshades while you are at it. |

Some sun is good and is needed to maintain a healthy body but too much of it is bad. |

|

|
If it is a needful for someone to spend more time in the sun then it is absolutely fine but
otherwise without any reason there is no such logic to stay in the sun especially in the summertime.
Again on the contrary we find that in winter it is very comfortable to be in the sun because the
natural heat keeps our body warmer and we feel extremely pleasant in the sun. But it is prescribed
that it is not always a needful to stay in the sun. For the purpose of our work we need to move out
and we cannot just sit back idle at home, so we cannot avoid being in the sun during our work hours,
but that is a different issue, so keeping that matter aside it is not always necessary to spend more
time in the sun. |

No sun is not completely proven to be good for you. It is proven to be bad. |

No, we should not spend more time in the sun than is natural. Feeling the sun's rays while going for
an afternoon walk, participating in outdoor sports activities or doing manual labour is entirely
natural, but tanning on the beach in order to get dark is not. In many cultures, being tanned is a
sign of good health and beauty, and most people tan because they feel that they will become more
attractive by this. We should remember, however, that concepts of beauty are relative and while
society today may glorify people who are nice and tanned, two decades from now, we may all think
differently.
So by all means, you should not fear getting a little colour and enjoying the sunshine while going
about your everyday activities. But it is not advisable to lie out in the sun in search of an
artificial tan. The health risks simply outweigh any benefits. |
