Agreed. It's bad enough that lung cancer is occurring and those who smoke don't make an effort to
make others realize how bad it is. |

I agree. Cigarettes are just not worth the risk. However, if the gov. Did make it illegal, the black
market and drug dealers would flourish off of selling illegal cigarettes. There is always a negative
aspect.... |

I agree. It's about time cigarettes were banned. They are dangerous to both smokers and non-smokers
and they smell awful. I can not stand the smell of the smoke when someone near me is smoking. |

Yes, I believe there should be something to ban the making and seloling of cigarettes. As long as
companies keep making them and people keep paying the ridiculous cost, people are still going to be
dying from them. Banning them from restaraunts and bars in OH was a good idea but what about
everywhere else? Secondhand smoke is everywhere. If they are taking such precautions such as banning
them in these places, why not just ban them altogether? |

Yes, they should come up with a law or something that bans cigarettes and alcohol all together.
There is absolutely nothing good about cigarettes and you are correct in saying that they kill many
people each year. Not only do they make people sick, they also stink. People who smoke cigarettes
stink. Their clothes stink, their hair stinks, and anything they touch will stink. People who smoke
are dirty. It is not fair for the clean people of the world to have to breathe in their second hand
smoke and die. Each year, innocent people also die because of second hand smoke. Shouldn't this be
considered murder? |

My thoughts are right on with phoenix and jsh4.
The point of my government is not to tell me what I can and can't do but to make sure that everyone
is being honest: Telling me what's good or what's bad for me.
I can figure out what I want to do all by myself.
Second hand smoke should be taken more seriously though. I go to a community college and the smoke
is disgusting. |

Absolutely not. All you would be doing is starting a brand-new, unwinnable "war on drugs". Let's
face it, prohibition didn't work, and the "war on drugs" isn't ever going to be won. The majority of
people are going to do what they want to do regardless whether it's illegal or not. All you're going
to be doing is making the smokers criminals. And have you thought about how we might punish the
violators? The prisons are already much too crowded. Just because something might be bad for you
does not mean I want the government to tell me whether or not I can use it! I am an adult capable of
thinking for myself. The companies who make harmful products should be required by law to make me
aware of the potential dangers, (which they currently do) and let me make my own decision. Making
anything potentially harmful illegal is absurd. |

Although one may think that such a law would save millions of lives, prevents thousands of cases of
cancer and other cigarette-related illnesses, making such a law would merely cause havoc; though
there are nicotine patches, ways of giving up, etc. It would simply be out of the question to remove
cigarettes from the lives of smokers completely.
First of all, there is the question of smokers' rights-there would be a public outcry, protests,
violence, and perhaps more.
Secondly, the millions of smokers out there would simply find other ways of obtaining cigarettes,
and many would most certainly resort to violence and crime. |

Of course there are concerns... But government isn't the way to get over our addictions... There's
too many other things going on right now to add removing the luxury of smoking to what's making
people tense... Can't wait for the day though |
