Yes. Its just the popular thing to accuse Bush of starting a pointless war right now. We all wanted it after September 11th. Because its taking longer to finish what we started than expected people are getting pissed, and forgetting the reason we went to war in the first place. WE WERE ATTACKED PEOPLE.

Why were we attacked? Because we've been such jerks in the Middle East. What happened when we went for revenge? We continued our policies of going after political targets instead of getting Al Queda. Bush couldn't care less about bin Laden, it was more important to take over Iraq, which had nothing whatsoever to do with the 9/11 attack and take out Saddam because of his attempt on his daddy's life.

The "War on Terror" is nothing but a thinly veiled excuse for us to go after whoever we want in the Middle East and ignore the real sources of terrorism, countries like Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

Yes it should have been started. I don't care how many biased books, incorrect statistics, or just flat out lies you source to me, because I know people who are currently over in Iraq risking their lives fighting, and agree to being there because they see first hand what is going on over there. And it is not good.

The United States had it started with Saddam since Desert Storm, and this is basically a follow up and finishing chapter to that war. Saddam was a tyrannical leader and was perfectly capable of funding and/or initiating terrorist attacks on the USA, and any other country he so desired.

No WMDs? Sure that's what the UN says. Iraq was Hussein's country, much like your bedroom is your room. If you had weed in your room and your parents were coming to check because they suspected you, would you show it to them or hide it? Same situation. You can't rely on the United Nations who have been known for their incompetence to just be able to walk in and find something as immense as WMDs. Saddam would have them hidden and out of sight in a heartbeat. I wouldn't be surprise if there were or still are WMDs in Iraq. Saddam had enough weapons to wipe out the entire world three times during desert storm, where does that all go in 10 years? Only the naive believe they were dispatched.

The truth is, in order for the United States to remain a power in this world, they need to keep everything in their control. The country is a target whether you comfortable people want to believe it or not, and so events like this must occur. It's not nice, but it's how things work when you're number one on the block.

Not to mention, media sources fail to mention the elimination of terrorists in Iraq and how much progress is actually being gained. They're too busy talking about how army guys are dying, despite the fact they joined the army and took an oath saying they'd lay their life on the line for their country.

Of course it should have been started! We were blatantly attacked, and just sitting down and taking it would be stupid. Also, the surge IS working, there is a trend of declining deaths, and former Iraqis are now starting to move back into their homes.

The war in Iraq should most definitely have been started. People were attacking our country and planning more to come. Although now we have removed the immediate threat that was Sadaam Husein so we should pull out and not stay in order give democracy to iraq. We have our own democracy to worry about.

Yes, the death rate has gone down drastically since US and UK troops have come. We could not have solved it diplomatically. It is tragic that lives are being lost in the army, but they SIGNED UP. IT WAS THEIR CHOICE.

A foolish attempt by a foolish man to become more popular politically. There was no proof to assume Saddam had any WMD's in his possession, and he knew that. Saddam was corrupt, but that doesn't give Bush the right to attack the country he was in charge of.

It is not Americas moral responsibility to police up the world and rid humanity of all dictators and violators of human rights. The American governments duty should be to the American people as layed out in our Constitution. We are not supposed to intervene in the affairs of foreign nations...so say our founding fathers...ya know...Washington, Hamilton, etc.

A true patriot believes 100% in the Constitution and raises the red flag when someone violates it. The Bush administration as well as other admins before him have violated the Constitution consistently. My government has turned the greatest Constitution ever written into toilet paper. They pick and choose what they can benefit from and then discard the rest.

It is the governments disregard for Americans that are costing American lives in Iraq.

Bring the troops home! Let the Iraqi people determine their own fate. It is not the place of the western world to dictate democracy where democracy has NEVER been welcome. We need the troops home!

I don't think the war in Iraq should of been started... But there's always going to be something that is going to cause such things.. There's always going to be country's in dispute.. Even tho war is wrong and innocent men are risking their lives and many are dying.. If it wasn't the war in Iraq killing people then it would only be something else.

If we would have not gone to war then the world can see that we are weak and that they can do what they want when they want because they wont get attacked for what they did hm... That's sad that people fight more for war then to support the troops over there fighting for our freedom

In 2002, USA started "Iraq War" with U.K and Australia. Since September, 11, 2001, America has protected their nation from the weapons of Iraq, Iran, and North Korea. They said that the reason to attack to Iraq was to protect nation and for the freedom of Iraqis against Sadam. I partially agree. It's right to protect one's nation, but they used the way of war. However, fundamentally I think that USA started the war for economic and political purposes and that war should be banned in any situation.

I believe that the United States of America stared the war for Iraq's oil and to return the USA to economic prosperity. USA has got plenty of economic profit because of wars(Iraq, Vietnam, Gulf) USA which has the best ammunition industry has sold their very expensive weapons such as a fighter planes, aircraft and missiles to other countries. These cruel weapons will be able to cause another war.

Many innocent people died because of the Iraq war including children, old people and women. USA also attacked Afghanistan to find Osama Bin Laden. Many people were killed, too. A war is a battle between the military not for children, old people and women. It's wrong to attack other countries to protect your own nation. There are no unimportant people. All people including children, old people, women even soldier are important.

In conclusion, I think, the Iraq war is wrong. All wars are wrong. There must be an another way like policy that involves smooth negotiation, different to killing and wounding. Actually, I think USA is the best nation of in the world and they are trying to keep world peace. But war was very wrong way to bring world peace
I don't want war anymore. I think that war should be banned in any situation.

Sorry to tell you you're living in a fairy tale world. War will always exist, it is necessary. It is in human nature and in all nature. I wish it weren't true, but it is, and there's nothing to do about it but come to terms with it and accept it.

You ALWAYS attack whoever you need to to ensure the safety of your nation. You have to. Your country is our family, without them you have nothing. It's easy for you to sit there nice and warm on your computer chair and type such non-sense, but would you be willing to give up everything you have in order to achieve your "no war" scenario?

And as for a war being a battle between military and military, well that's true, but civilian deaths are unavoidable. Those militarizes are fighting in a populated country. There is no way for anyone to avoid killing civilians. It's just another unfortunate aspect of life that you're better off dealing with and accepting rather than fighting against.

Of course it shouldn't. Iraq had nothing to do with the attacks on America. They didn't even support Al Qaeda. The Bush administration used it as an excuse and then desperately looked for evidence that never emerged. They still, however, managed to convince the more ignorant American citizen that Iraq had something to do with it. The rest is history.

You're convinced that someone like Saddam Hussein would never have anything to do with Al Qaeda, or anyone similar? And how do you know this, did Saddam tell you? Sorry to say that bad guys don't go around admitting their deep dark secrets. That's why we have people at CIA and NSA finding this stuff out for us.

Democracy is great, people should be involved in their government, however, it seems people never accept what is, they always have to find a conspiracy or a reason why what is being given can't be right.

The way Bush took us to war in the first place was a huge mistake. That said, it is a good thing that Saddam is gone. Furthermore, people seem to forget that before we went in there we "No Fly Zones" which were often involved in active military skirmishes since the time Saddam returned to power after being driven back for Kuwait.
But fundamentally the Iraq war was a mistake. It reinforced a paralyzing stereotype about America which views America as a belligerent bully country which forces its own will down the throats of other countries. This stereotype weakens our links to our allies and might be increasing how many new terrorist recruits are being convinced to join Al-qaeda

This should never have happened in the first place. Bush was only sending troops over there and blowing the whole thing our of proportion for MONEY.
He also knew he would be well backed up by Americans, and of course the UK always seem to back them up as well
It also meant that Bush would be re-elected

 Question:
What would have happened if we had NOT?
Answer: They would have done it again.
Furthermore, the troops who die there SIGN UP and they knew the risk. But they will not die in vain.

No, the war in Iraq was a terrible mistake and has had disastrous consequences. Hidell makes a good point about George Bush's interest in establishing US bases in the area, but I would also argue that many in the US administration, such as Colin Powell, probably actually believed that Saddam Hussein had WMDs. The attacks of September 11th, 2001 had a major psychological impact on the US. These events essentially generated a type of siege mentality and a sense of widespread paranoia. If Bush had any prior plans to invade Iraq (and even some of his own public statements at the time of his election in 2000 seem to suggest this), then 9/11 may just have given him that essential push.

Although the US only entered Iraq in March 2003, an invasion was already on the agenda in early 2002 and UN teams under Hans Blix were investigating the possibility of WMDs that year, and thus generating headlines throughout the world. As such, the US was ready to go into Iraq only a few months after 9/11, but at this point was still going through some international formalities. This does suggest that the profound psychological effects of the 9/11 terrorist attacks may have given the final push to invade.

Bush was looking for an excuse to invade Iraq from the first day of his presidency, he just used outright lies in a desperate attempt to link Iraq to 9/11 so he could get in and beat up Saddam for trying to kill his daddy.

Only an idiot would think otherwise.

Of course the war shouldn't have been started. It was an abomination. It couldn't have been solved politically because there was nothing to solve. Saddam had no WMDs and Bush knew that. WMDs were just the pretext. Bush wanted the war for two reasons : To get re-elected and to establish bases in the Gulf region. Bush knew how patriotic Americans are. He knew that if he started a war people would rally behind him. He also wanted bases in a resource-rich region.

Read the document Rebuilding America's Defenses published by the Project for the New American Century (you can find it online). In a roundabout way, it basically calls for America to establish permanent bases in the Gulf region using Saddam's weapons of mass destruction as a pretext. Many members of the Bush administration were among the founders of this organisation and the document served as a template for the whole Bush presidency.
