It is a moral obligation of those with means to help those without means so, of course, the US
government, and other Western governments, should help them.
As well as granting aid, we should probably refrain from forcing dogmatic libertarian economic
policies on them through the IMF. If you look at the Asian countries which raised themselves up from
poverty to prosperity, such as Taiwan, in general they didn't do it by pursuing Austrian-school
free-market economics. There was a large element of state management in their economic policies.
With the bludgeon of debt repayment obligations, we tend to force hardline economic policies on
African countries which we ourselves would not tolerate if applied in the West.
Ultimately, of course, it is also in our self-interest to help them. Poverty and chaos at home is
partly what prompts waves of migration to the wealthy West. Curing the problem at source would
prevent this and, in time, the countries of sub-Saharan Africa could become an important market for
our products. And if the Gulfstream goes, much of Europe's population might have to move there, so
maybe we should build up the infrastructure a bit beforehand.. |

Of course, but there are a few issues.
I am assuming you are referring to Darfur, which has ben in turmoil through the rebellion of the
Janjaweed peoples. The Janjaweed are trying to establish a communist regime, or just a plain
dictatorship. In the process they have kill hundreds of thousands.
The problem, I believe, is with the UN. The UN has been very bad at taking care of international
crimes, such as the genocide in Rwanda. Another factor is that the Sudanese government is making it
difficult to get supplies through, and not letting UN troops in due to the fact they think it is an
invasion force.
All in all, we have donated millions to Africa. However, the attempt seems to be getting to a
futile point. |

The United States Government should first take steps to help our own country; then begin to aid
others. |
| |
|

|

Since most of the West is rich because of the exploitation of these nations, we should try to help
them. Not just the US, but most of Europe as well. |

The sub-Saharan Africa is facing a number of problems which are taking them to the termination. The
damages that are happened there needed the help to rectify. People are dying there; the stability in
economy has gone as it failing day by day. The household, the health and the educational sectors are
drowning into the water every day. The US government should take some step in helping the
sub-Saharan Africa as this government has the ability to help. This is the primary responsibility of
the US government as they boast of the leadership of the world. According to my point of view, every
competent country should come forward to the aid of sub-Saharan Africa. How can we keep ourselves
away from this when our brothers and sisters are dying for a single bite of food? |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
|
Let's look at the damage being done here...people are dying, economies are failing, the health,
household, and educational sectors are being negatively impacted, and U.S. Trade interests are at
risk in countries that are becoming more oppressively militarized. The U.S. Government should help
because we have the ABILITY to help...should we stand idly by while our brothers and sisters of the
human race fall? We have the responsibility to help others as an "older brother" nation. U.S. Aid
could not only save lives, but prevent future epidemics through education and increase the economy
via trade, which would be made possible through a higher number of people in the African economy's
working force. There are even indirect advantages to the U.S.: Trade with Africa lowers prices on
consumer goods here, and a higher standard of living there could increase tourism, which feeds money
into BOTH economies. |

Yes all that interests it is its own interests |

Yes, and not only US, all the countries over the world who are able to help should help them to
develop in a sustainable way. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
|
The help is not just sending money, its not supporting corruption, allowing free trade and
encouraging sustainable development. So I agree the US should be doing more. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
|
We need to all help send money. |
| |
|
| |
|
|
|
 |

By all means we should not have a US or UN invasion of Africa. What happens there is their business
and we should not risk the lives of our soldiers in order to "liberate" these countries for no
reason. |

I think we shouldn't help Africa at all, any part of it! We need to help ourselves before we help
another country. We have poor that need help! I know this, I'm one of them. It sucks so much when
your own government doesn't help the poor it created in the first place. |

American resources are already spread too thin, to the detriment of American citizens.
Why do you think so many of our brave troops in Iraq were forced to be stay there longer than they
were suppose to? Our troops and other resources are are being stretched too thin.
At some point there'll have be a forced military draft reinstated, that will also include females.
Maybe Bush's twins could be the first ones drafted? |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
|
I think we should help our own people first.
As was mentioned earlier they wouldn't help us why should we help them? Our country is in huge debt
A debt that could be paid off 10 times if other countries would return the money we loaned them.
Instead of giving more money away we need to demand re-payment of what we have already given then
we could be out of debt solidify social security have a national healthcare plan for everyone and
lower taxes. To those of you who think we should help give them your money and let the government
quit taking so much of mine. |

I don't think the US government should be off helping other countries. The US government needs to
help themselves and their country. I don't see any other countries running to the aid of the US when
we are in need. I don't see other countries trying to pitch in to help feed our hungry kids or help
with our high gas prices. Therefore, we should not be off helping other countries, especially ones
who would never return the favor. The US does to much for other countries and never gets any thanks
for it. In this world, it should all countries for themselves. You can't help someone else, until
you help yourself. |

The Government is a failed business. I think that if you have a problem with what is going on in
Africa, take some initiative and get involved in a way that you can. Or you can call American Idol
when they do there big charity show if you are too lazy to actually be extremely proactive. |

A lot of the people that have said that we should send help Sub Saharan Africa, have also said that
we should send more than money. I would like some clarification on these statements. Are you
suggesting that we send troops, and that we have another Iraq war on our hands? Why is it our duty
to help that region? Just because we took slaves from that country 300 years ago does not mean we
are indebt to Africa forever. |

We're already helping people in Iraq |

I have no problem with helping Africa. However, its not our governments obligation to do it.
I agree that the U.S. Should fix itself so it can help others. However, the government should not
entangle itself by making obligations to be in charge of other countries.
The U.S.A. Is not a Big Brother to the world and shouldn't be.
Because there are so many problems in Africa WHY AREN'T YOU doing anything about it! |

What technically makes this the United States problem? If someone is a father then he has the
responsibility to help his kids along and protect them from harm. Now someone else's kids.... No
obligation. Seeing as the United States currently is in debt at an almost unimaginable level and
primarily we should seek to repair that problem before sending further money outside the country |
