Snakes Should Be Kept As Pets
A lot of people have been killed or attacked by pet snakes but some people agree with having snakes as pets

Well, if they are non poisonous and the owner feeds and takes care of his or her pet snake properly and also knows how to handle snakes, then why not....?

No one needs or should own a giant python or venomous snake as a pet. The giant pythons cannot safely be handled by one person once they pass 5' in length. There are, however, smaller more benign snakes that are safe to own as a pet. It may not be humane in that a snake cannot truly be domesticated, but the pet stores carry them and, until they do not, these snakes are better off with an experienced owner than in the pet store where they are kept on minimum feed to shave the costs off of keeping them in stock. I had a ball/royal python and he (or she) was a very docile and benign pet. The thing would not strike even for a live mouse. I had to feed him frozen thawed prey in total darkness to get him to even take the food. When threatened, they curl up into a ball and tuck their heads in. They cannot be released back into the wild here in the US because the climate is not right for them and they will die. That snake taught my kids and myself a lot and was a fascinating pet. It is necessary to wash one's hands before and after handling any reptile. They should be treated with great respect.

As for the giant snakes such as the Burmese or Reticulated Python or the Anacondas that I have seen in pet stores, that is reckless and stupid and those reptiles do not belong in private homes unless the handler is licensed and has a legitimate reason (can't think of any) to own such a pet. They can and do kill and eat the family dog or a child out of instinct. They are not mean, bad or vicious. They are wild animals and will act like a wild animal. Also, even one that is not trying to kill a human may do so accidentally when an unexperienced owner handles one alone or drapes one over their neck. As they naturally constrict, they can cut off blood supply to the brain and the owner can quickly become unconscious before they realize that they are at risk. That is true even with the smaller snakes. No constricting snake should be draped around a neck. Respect and knowledge are necessary in handling a snake.

I disagree with the way you phrased your debate. Technically no animal SHOULD be kept as pets. But some animals do prefer the company of humans, such as dogs. I would say cats, but cats generally don't seem to care one way or the other.
