I agree. In this world of TV and video games children aren't as active. We live in a climate that
is cold 6 months of the year, so I bought my children a Wii. We only have the sport game and the fit
game. They spend a lot of time with it and the games we have require a lot of activity. Even my
husband and I have been doing it and I have lost 8 lbs! It's a decent substitute when going outside
isn't an option. :) |

It is very important that kids have the freedom of playing outside. Parents think it is OK for the
TV to babysit their kids and it really isn't. They are just hurting them int he long run and need to
think twice before telling them they can't play outside. Lots of people say they don't have time to
go and watch them, but who doesn't have time for their kids? You have to arrange your schedule and
get outside! Even taking a walk or fitting in your daily exercise with your child outside is better
than nothing. There are many things you could do while you watch them outside also. Your work can
come with you or be done early morning or late night. There are no excuses for why children sit
inside and be unfit. |

Is there anyone out there who could legitimately argue against this?
When I was growing up in the 1960s, we played outside all day. We ran in great packs of neighborhood
kids, and our moms never worried about us. The families were all about at the same middle class
level, and no one had fancy electronic toys.
And, believe me, there was usually just one fat kid in a classroom of 30 -- not 10, like today’s
statistics.
No one here has mentioned that eating dirt improves kids’ immune systems. When we made and ate mud
pies, we gradually processed microorganisms that would make today’s kids violently ill. In fact,
in general, modern kids are more sickly.
This is the same principle of if you live for a long time in the Third World, your intestinal fauna
becomes like that of the natives so you cease getting sick from food. |

These days’ kids could hardly get any time for playing outside. From the very early days of their
life they are burdened and bounded by the books and home works that they do not get any time for
playing. But the scenario should not be like this. Kids must play outside on a regular basis to
develop their physical fitness as well as their mental fitness too. A kid should go outside and
plays for an hour minimum with the purpose of getting rid off the heart disorders afterward in life.
Apart form this, a research shows that the long time a kid spends on physical tricks, the lesser
incidence happened like cardiovascular disorders. My own opinion is that, the more time a kid spends
on play ground the more time he or she can to talk with other kids and its help them to be more
socialized. |

I think they should because kids are getting fatter and fatter every year and that is why i go
camping, hiking, fishing, horse back riding and i stay in shape! So go outside and play an hour a
day! |

I totally see what everyone is saying about beethoven and stuff, but some kids should at least go
and play outside, it's healthy for them to go and play. |

Eating the wrong things, Lack of physical exercise, No Mom and Dad influences or excuses for their
overweight, flabby kiddo's. If you take a look at the children in question, and then take a look at
their Parent's..there is where the problem lies. I played outside for two hours after school- every
day as i was growing up, then I came inside to do my homework. By the time Dinner was ready, I was
done with my homework, was bathed and dressed in my pajamas. I didn't need my parent's breathing
down my neck as I KNEW what was expected of me. This is what kids are lacking today. If everyone
realized the family dynamic is a group effort, the kids would be healthier, no one would be fat and
or flabby, and obese would become a word of the past..My parent's didn't allow junk food or
snacking, and i have stayed slender..and strong..All it takes is commitment..and action! |

I believe that children need to play actively outside and inside. Today too many children sit around
eating junk food and playing video games. This is okay sometimes, but I think that they are doing it
way too much. It is very important that children exercise and build strong bones and muscles and
they do this by playing outside and inside actively. If children do not get outside, exercise and
participate in active activities, they will end up getting obese which will lead to other health
problems. Some video games such a V-Smile are educational and can be very beneficial. However, these
video games should not comprise the majority of their waking day. |

Children should spend more time outside. Children today play guitar hero and eat chips, tell me that
is healthy. They do need more exercise and time to play and interact with other children. |

The people who are arguing, "is it safe". Need to realize that the parents need to start spending
more time with their children anyways and get up off the couch. They need to be outside with their
children to ensure their safety. Of course, I think kids need to play outside more. Have you taken a
look around America lately? Obesity is starting at a younger age every year. Kids need to play and
stay active instead of chillin' inside with a bag of chips and the television. |

The fresh air (if it is found outside your home) is good. We were made for being in contact with
nature- not isolated from it. It is good for health, I believe. Children should be supervised, of
course. I was in a little gang once that played in the neighborhood often and I was influenced
negatively by the peers. I started cursing as they did. I regret that, but not all gangs are bad.
Gang=group. |

It is vital that kids are outdoors having fun. The TV can teach them some things but it is nothing
compared to when they get outside and experience real life for themselves. Due to indoor obsessions
such as television and xbox, wwii or computer games, there is a major problem with obesity in
children. (Fast food plays a major role as well) It is important for children to be able to use
computers, but it is to easy for the computer or video games to become their obsessions. It is then
harder for them to meet new friends or have relationships with people outside of a screen in their
home. Indoor fun is good but it must be the right kind. Outdoor fun can't be matched though. |

Outdoor activities are absolutely crucial in the development and well-being of children. Not only do
they learn important social skills as they mingle and play with their friends--things that cannot be
taught from a textbook--but they also remain in good physical shape.
Childhood obesity is a growing problem in North America, as well as in the United Kingdom, as kids
are spending much more time than before in front of computer and television screens. Parents need
to be pro-active and the best thing that they can do is limit the amount of time children spend on
the Internet, playing video games and watching television. Adults can also lead by example. A good
idea is to introduce the importance of an active lifestyle at an early age, by taking young children
on daily walks, spending the weekend in the countryside, going on summer picnics and walking them to
school whenever possible. |

Children should have more outdoor activities but it’s always the parent’s job to watch for their
safety. The largest part of the problem with overweight children is the kids have too many
opportunities for fast-food/ easy quick fixes to a good meal, junk food are a major problem. |
