Nature does decide when we are physically ready to have sex. Hormonal changes, the menstrual cycle,
etc.
However in society today, due the longer period of dependency on the mother, children take longer to
reach emotional maturity. This makes it easier for young people to be exploited or taken advantage
of, this is why young people should not have sex. |

This debate implies that simply because teens feel a certain way, they should be permitted to act
out their fantasies and go for instant gratification. Teens often feel like skipping school, they
may feel like partying all night before an exam or they may feel like taking controlled substances.
Should adults just sit back passively and concede that this is acceptable, simply because teens have
an urge to act in a certain way? Of course not, and our attitude towards teenagers under 18 years of
age engaging in sexual intercourse should be no different.
Simply arguing that we should let those under 18 have sex openly, because if we don't, then they
will just do it in secret anyway and come into contact with a sexually transmitted disease, is
probably the sort of blackmail that rebellious teens may use to try and convince their parents. In
most circumstances, encouraging abstinence among those under 18 years of age is still a better
(though imperfect) policy than just sighing and giving in. Engaging in sexual relations takes a
certain level of maturity, where one understands the possible physical and emotional consequences of
these actions. Most teenagers have yet to develop this more mature outlook. |

No. No one under 18 should have sexual relations. You need to be a kid. You will have many years to
be an adult and do adult things. Kids under 18 are not mature enough or responsible enough to have
sex. They do not understand what love it and they only have sex for fun. Why would you want someone
to use your body many times as a kid? Then when you find the love of your life as an adult, you will
be all used up like a dirty rag. Save yourself for your true love. Get married before having sex.
You won't regret it. |

In our society, sex is defined as an adult activity and therefore, those who are not adults should
not act on it. It may be a natural thing, but so is murder and people can refuse to take part in
that if they wish, most do every day.
Humans have the ability to override their natural impulses, even if there are a lot of humans who
aren't really bright enough to do so. |
