Sex Education Is Something For The Parents To Teach.
This is not something for schools to teach. There are a lot of moral issues about sex and the parents should tell the kids, not the teachers.

I agree, I think that parents should teach their children about sex. Students should however learn about sex at school. But the parents are the people responsible for their children's actions legally until they are 18. So if a child goes and have sex with some random person, they will look at the parents in the long run, not the teachers.

No one should rely on other people to teach what you think is best for your child.

Then you shouldn't send them to school in the first place. Plus you should probably find a cave so that you can completely control outside influence.

I just gave my son a talk about this subject, just yesterday. And I don't believe the conversation is over. I didn't want his to pick up this information from his friend in school or on the Internet (especially) He wanted to know, so I taught him. He's too young and not that interested in girls, that I have to worry about it with him, but he's very intelligent and wanted to know the truth. Did I go into homosexuality and oral sex, other places sex or bestiality and stuff....... No, he's got time to grow up more before he hears of all that, but he knows he can come to me and talk about anything.

Good for you Steve. Did you find it particular arkward, or did your son? or was it easier than you might have feared. I imagine it could be a tad embarassing for one or both parties. It needs to be done though.

You can not trust the government to give kids a sense of morality or even a sense of ethics. Sex can end your life, why is that an issue to be taught by a school teacher and a textbook? Each family has its own beliefs about teaching their children about sex but if they are not able to do the job then they are not mature enough to be raising kids.

Not everyone's parents are WILLING to teach their children about sex. There are also plenty of parents who feel extremely uncomfortable about opening up the subject with their kids.

Many parents are parents precisely because they don’t know diddley about sex ed. There are moral issues that touch on this subject however sex education itself is a simple and practical description of the human reproductive process and its potential results such as pregnancy and STDs. We cannot depend on parents for this, as the historical evidence overwhelmingly shows. The parents’ job is helping the child to integrate this information into the moral structure (if any) that the parents have been providing for their children.
The hard truth is that many parents are idiots. And a child should not be denied vital information just because of fatally stupid parents. If you all really want to control every thought and piece of information that your children receive then pull them out of school and brainwash them in the privacy of your own homes. It’s called home schooling.

I disagree. It should be taught by both the parents and at school. Schools tend to focus on the use of contraceptives and on sexual health which is important. Parents can teach about love and relationships and like you said, the moral issues.

A well rounded education should include human biology and anatomy, including reproduction: Conception, gestation, and birth. Too many teenagers seem to not grasp how the body (and reproduction) actually work. Moralizing is not necessary. Just the facts.

What if the parents just don't educate their kids about sex. The subject does need broaching, everyone must agree that, I hope. I would trust the school to teach the subject proficiently. So let them. Parents should and would also teach their children, but at least if they fear the thought of doing so they know the school has.

Balders, the school does teach the kids, unfortunately, it's not the teachers, my son is in the 4th grade and he and his friends are already discussing the subject and checking out the developing girls. When I think back, I was aware too, at that age, mostly because I had older brothers bringing home their girlfriends, and I would catch them in precarious positions. Now if you have any ideas on how to teach a child that beauty in only skin deep, I'll love to hear the response.

It's a lot easier in school. I school you can have equipment things like plastic models etc. And at home you won't also its very awkward to listen to your parents, but if it's at school, your with your mates and you can have a laugh and it'll stick in your mind more. Unless the child asks of course. And there's nothing wrong with parents explaining it too.

Plastic models of what? Humans? Penises? What's so awkward about asking your parents? I've never had any problems.

And what happens when the parents fail to teach it? Are you going to pretend that doesn't happen?

The few that do discuss it with kids may not do it properly out of prudishness and embarrassment. Delude yourself all you want, but many/most kids are either going to learn proper sex education in schools or at the STD/pregnancy clinic after it's too late.

If everything were done your way, anti-racism would be taught at home. Would you trust a KKK fan to teach someone not to hate? Or how about requiring the poor to teach their own kids financial responsibility? You might as well close down the schools if you feel that way.

I do not believe that parents are a reliable source for sexual education because the education they received during their school time and now are very different. Some adults did not even receive sex education at all because some schools did not allow Sex Education during their time.

I'm a teen and i find it much easier learning it in a class than talking about with my parents. It works in my school district. The last teen pregnancy was over 5 years ago.

No. You can't rely on parents to be honest about the issue with their children. Some will be too embarrassed to discuss it at all; others will attempt to mingle the facts with the supernatural beliefs of their cult. The end result will be teenagers who are not properly informed about sex-related matters, with all the risks of unwanted pregnancies and possible exposure to sexual-transmitted diseases that this ignorance necessarily entails.

I have to wholeheartedly disagree with that. I am a teenager and I am very will informed on sex. Here is what I've been basically taught about pre-marital sex: "No sex until marriage. Period." Not that hard to follow, is it? It is hard to follow if you are a hedonistic pig with no self-discipline. And if you are worrying about technical issues, I was forced to watch college level courses on male reproductive organs XD. After that any question about sex I asked about was answered. So there is no place to whine.
