Archeological discoveries are controlled by politics and thus their release is controlled. I studied under the archeologist who took over Gezer after his colleague was imprisoned-he said there is still alot that hasn';t been published due to the governments controls.

practice sacrifice-child and adult. The aztecs for example. The navajo have a history of the Anasazi
(the name derives from the navajo language meaning 'enemy ancestors') who used to practice human and
child sacrifices. The navajo have struggled with this history. They have stories about it. It has
come to light through their oral traditions that there were ritual marriage practices that involved
inter-marriage with these sacrificing cannabalistic people and therefore think that the name could
also be derived as though their own ancestors were their own enemies. The history of the anasazi is
that they migrated in all directions due to famine. Various different peoples have used human
sacrifice to appease the God's. The celtic druids are another group who also practice human
sacrifice. The practice was abolished. It is now considered a primitive early human practice that as
civilization and technology improved was abandoned.
Deuteronomy 18:10 "Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire..."
Leviticus 18:21 "And thou shalt not let any of thy children pass through the fire to Moloch..."
If you want to insist that ancient Jews practiced human sacrifice, than the burden of proof is on you. So far, you haven't offered any compelling evidence.
Iris, where are you getting your information from? I did numerous Google searches and found no
information about any archaeologist being imprisoned for finding tophets in Gezer. And why would
they? Gezer was occupied by the Moloch worshipping Canaanites, not the Jews. It is well known that
the Canaanites performed ritual child sacrifice at the tophets. The Canaanites and the Israelites
were sworn enemies and it is well known the the Israelites abhorred the practice of child sacrifice
(it was also strictly forbidden in the Torah). Why would the modern Israeli government imprison an
archaeologist for finding evidence of human sacrifice performed by their former enemy?
Pollywog, I took a class in the archeology of the Old Testament. My professor was a Rabbi's son. He had a hand in the Excavations of Gezer. you need to read my previous commentary. I asked about the child sacrifices in class per the biblical histories. He told me about the imprisonment of a colleague and that they had to 'tone down' the language. He said, there is no evidence archeologically of an exodus of Isrealites. He said that the Hebrews and Phoenicians ARE the canaanites. He said the ONLY destructs of the cities that archeology has found dates to the time of the EGYPTIAN destructs of Ahmose I not an Isrealite destruction. I keep telling you this was elementary school teaching-the rise of the Canaanite city states was a result of the power vacuum created by the exhaustion of the Hittite and Egyptian wars which ended in a peace treaty then the two empires collapsed due to the invasion of the sea peoples. Yes, there were ritual child sacrifices, yes other people copied the sacrifice that the canaanites did-yes it is a problem of a coverup and yes we had a very honest discussion about it. I do nbot know why you defend Israel so much-the Bible has agreed that it occurred and so do other sources-Isrealite identity attempted to distance itself from that practice and as a result-the bible states they BLAMED THEIR FOREIGN WIVES. they only have control over government funded scientific institutions. They have no control over
corporate scientific endeavors.
depends on the government and the timeline. Happened to find this out from an Archeologist who did part of the work on Gezer and yes it's true-an archeologist made the publication and was imprisoned for it. This archeologist says the finds are now 'toned down and carefully worded' or they are not published. Furthermore, it also depends on money. Archeological digs are expensive and requires grants either government or private-A government or private person can then have say as to what is published. Science is not nor has it ever been able to purely state the truth.
