| Schools Should Participate In Certain Single-Gender Only Activities |
| Single gender schools have higher test scores compared to schools that host both males and females. Should schools feature activities- like certain classes and events- for only one gender? |

Yes, I agree, and I see where you're coming from. Without the... Uh... Distraction of the other
gender most people would do better in school. |

Mixed gender gathering and schools are a boost to confidence level and prepare a person for the
challenges of life ahead. A person can better cope up with the gender differences and
discriminations if they are taught to deal with them at an early age. Single gender activities are
equally important for mental development and sense of belonging.
Same gender students can relate and communicate better with each other and promoting single gender
activities at mixed gender schools can prove to be a healthy change. |

This may be a good idea as long as it does not participate in sexist activities. It has been proven
that students enrolled in all girl schools or in all boy schools do score higher on important
standardized tests. So, it would be interesting to see what would happen if they have single gender
classes. High school students today are more liberal than ever. In many cases, students fail because
they are way too interested in the opposite sex. Although falling in love is not a bad thing, it
should not be the center focus of your life (especially at 15 years old). I believe that students
today do need to focus more on school and they should have as few distractions as possible. |

The single gender classes could be used in cases where a student is failing one class participated
by both genders. In order to keep their attention on school work and boost his or her grade, they
could be put in a single gender class. |

In the process of evolution of human beings it is felt that a male person is stronger than a female
person. But in the recent progress of every field it is also felt that women have similar
contribution as well as the men. Our ancestors were biased about gender, they did not preferred to
work side by side with women or in some parts they thought the women were inferior to them. But we
do not have such complexity in our mind; rather we should prefer to work side by side with women.
So, we should not maintain a gender bias in schools. Besides the contests which need physical
strength and power, men and women would participate in similar events or contests. It would be
beneficial to all the students irrespective of male female. It would boost up the students to prove
their skills more promptly. |

There are benefits to both arguments, but I am going to have to disagree. Society is not
single-gendered, so the learning environment shouldn't' be, either. Students need to be open to more
experiences than a single-gender school can provide. |

Although I once attended a single gender elementary school myself, I am tempted to say no to this
one. While some studies have suggested that boys tend to perform better if they are in single
gender, rather than co-ed classes, I think that the jury is still out on this one and there is no
conclusive evidence either way.
It is true that these schools usually perform better on standardized tests than co-ed institutions,
but this is not due to the gender factor, but because most boys or girls-only schools are
privately-funded institutions and these often beat public schools when it comes to student scores.
You will probably find that co-ed private schools perform better than co-ed public institutions as
well, so it does not boil down to the gender composition of a classroom, but usually has more to do
with socio-economic issues. |
