School Should Be Optional
Its for a school project please vote adults! And younger citizens who have the right to debate!

It should be a person's right to decide if they want to go or not.

Mandatory schooling is a form of communism. LET ME EXPLAIN! Communism is the gov't controlling people's lives for the good of the community. Mandatory schooling is aimed at reducing crime rates by increasing someone's potential, which will increase their employment opportunities which will decrease unemployment rates. This is infringing on the rights of the individual to help the community, which is communism.

I think it should, because some people want to have a career that doesn't require schooling, and they have to go through it anyway. Or they could be smart enough to not need it, or go straight to college or something like that. It should be mandatory for people who need it, but if they don't, I don't see any reasons to have to do it.

 Because at age 6 all humans know right then if they are smart and if they plan to have a life or just live off of government assistance right?

School should be optional because parents should be able to count on there students to go to school i mean they shouldn't be forced because they are going to grow up hating life and there parents and for some they just might go to school on there own parents and schools should just trust people. For the parents that don't trust there kids, they are probably bad right. Maybe they lie and smoke and drink and have sex and get pregnant because they are not trusted like my cuzin says she is going to start lieing to her mom because her mom thinks she is doing something bad. I no that i am on a tottaly different subject i kind of got carried away but my whole point is people need to trust there kids to go to school every day. But then again it should be there choice

 A life without an education might be even more boring - ever considered that??? Ever consider what your wold will be like when all the adults are undereducated and at the mercy of those in other countries who ARE educated? If things don't change, that is where you are headed and I'm guessing boredom won't be your biggest problem - trying to survive will be!

It should be optional because what if the parents don't have money and cant afford it. And it only takes away more of your life. U only have one life you know? And its short so don't waste it at school

YES we should get to be optional not all kids like to sit in class and listen to the teacher all day ad with homeschool u can tell the teacher to talk less and u can work at u own pace

 Just ask my 9 yr old about that!!! Homeschoolers have teachers and classrooms just like regular school - most do anyway. It may not be 6 hours or everyday but they still have to listen to a teacher "talking". The thing is, when my child doesn't listen to the teacher - he gets to hear the teacher talk all over again, then he gets to do the work over until he finally gets it right. Imagine that! Maybe that is what should happen in public school too.

Yes , school should optional because some kids might not want to go to school and learn but stay home and do their own thing so school should be optional!

 And when Mommy and Daddy are gone who will pay for your TV watching and Video game playing? I don't guess you would be wasting time on the internet either - since being able to read is a requirement of doing so.

 I know were on the same side and all, but students should go to school because i really don't think that you want to grow up, not get any education at all, and you won't even get a job at taco bell. school is necessary, and people could make fun of you on how "stupid" or "dumb" in other word non-educated.
i know it sucks, but you only have to go for 12 years of your life, and a couple of college if you even go. an approcimate life is 80 yrs, 15 out of 80 for an educated life so you can live with food, a house and make a family and buy them necessary things they need to live. school is neccesary and even if it was optional you should go.

 Public schooling is free. If they are poor then they should be out working earning money not schooling their kids.

If the parents don't want their kids being taught in public places that's their decision to make. Some kids don't do well intellectually or cant do well focusing with a bunch of other kids or pressure around them.

Everyone should have a proper education to be successful in life. If school was optional there will be no great scientists or new medicines anymore because people will find it hard to continue school, maintain high grades, and study.

The vast majority of 13 year old pupils would opt to pull out of school. I firmly believe that education should be compulsory for all pupils up to eighteen, unless there is a very good reason to which a pupil cannot attend

AND PUBLIC SCHOOL IS NOT FREE IN THE UK

At first I wanted to say that your teacher should be fired for giving this as a school project but maybe he/she knows that it may just make the student think...obviously there is too little of that going on in schools and in society these days. This site is proof of it. When I first began to read posts from young people I thought you all were joking with most of your debates but a few more websites later and I can tell that this generation is headed for real trouble!

Like neko said, it should be optional at a certain point. I am against high level algebra classes I'm forced to take that I won't need for life but am for the simpler level courses from elementary and middle school that taught me a few things I actually use in my life.

If school were optional no one would go. Point in case, starter of this topic. Though I guess school doesn't help those unwilling to let it. You have the option of going to college or not. Why moan and complain about the first 18 years? It's not that bad. There's no REAL REASON for it to be optional. Life is short? I wouldn't call 70 or 80 years (Average) very short. You can spend 18 of them doing something that can have an influence on your life.

I disagree. Like I said on another debate, school should not be optional. I've seen so many debates where people say that school is boring and that they shouldn't have to go etc.

School is the first step of education. There is no cost to attend public school. It isn't as boring as some people think. Yes, there are some subjects which may not be exactly the most exciting, but these subjects will help you to find a decent job later in life and perhaps if some people paid more attention to them, they may find them more interesting than they think.

It's always good to learn something new. There are plenty of enjoyable subjects and good times that you can have at school. You can only explore different subjects and get an idea of what job you'd like to do if you attend school. Employers will always look at your qualifications that you've achieved at school and if you don't have any, then you won't have a very successful career or probably no career at all.

Some people have said to me that your school days are the best days of your life. This is true. When you go into the real world of work and start having to deal with the difficulties that life throws at you when you're older, you'll soon start to wish that you were back in that classroom, surrounded by your friends without a care in the world.

School should not be optional. School is the first step towards gaining an education, which you need to get a decent job. You have your whole life ahead of you. School takes up just a few years which you can spend exploring different subjects and making decisions as to where you want your life to go career wise.

There is no cost to attend public school. School can be an enjoyable experience if you allow it to be.

public school is free besides pencils and all
KIDS CAN GET A JOB!!!!!!!!!!! TO PAY FOR SCHOOL. School should be optional if you want everyone to be stinken retards also churches give out free school supplies including backpacks i don't know bout everyone but i don't wanna work at burger king asking people if they want frys with there burger when I'm 60 yrs old!!!!!! And by not going to school how can there be doctors there would be no degrees needed so a homeless person could be a doctor not knowing what hes doing and hurt people trying to cure them of sickness and end up killing um in surgery because not having the knowledge from school

people wouldn't learn to give change lets say the total was 100 dollars the 1 paying could give 1 dollar and the person took thinking its 100 dollars

school is needed give us the education to live life and also to read the Bible and actually understand it and understand God

God gave us this knowledge for a reason don't you think he wants us to use it

 Kids can't get a job if there in a young grade. And people will teach there own kids by day by day lessons. and they have to pass an exam to be a doctor smart one!!!!
