School Should Be A Bit Later On In The Morning So You Are Not Tired And You Are Ready To Go To School
I'm always tired on a school day. If school was an hour later we won't be tired and we would be ready for school. We would be wide awake in school and i believe it would benefit the child and the school. But that's my opinion and anyone is entitled to their own.

It dosent have to be much later. I have to be at the bus stop by 6:30 meaning i have to be up be at least 5. School starts at 7:15 if they pushed all that back by an hour i wouldent come to my first period so sleepy

If school started a little later that would not be a bad thing. Kids would be more a wake and ready to lean, I bet that the attendance would become higher; there might even be less F's. School should start around 9:30 or 10:00

I agree but i think that might make people stay out later and up later so it would not work because they would just have a hard time getting up in the morning still. Maybe they should test having school later to see what would happen (A high school though)

Yes because you need some time to wake up and do stuff to get ready for school.

I think they should start later because that way there would not be as many late kids.Kids would be able to get to get to school on time, which saves the kids the embarrassment of going in and all the kids looking at them. This has happened to me a bunch of times. For elementary it's 7:45 which is the time I wake up. Now that I am in middle school we go to school at 8:30. Which is better than elementary but still a little to early. The parents have to go to work and on top of it they have to take their kids to school at 7:45 in the morning. This can sometimes make the parents late to work which is worse because, they earn the money to pay for everything we have. This is what I feel on the subject.

I go to college, and in college I make my own schedule. My classes never start before 10 A.M.. So I agree with all of this. Whether your in college or school, it should be about you and your education, not how they want you to be.

This mentality that it's all about *YOU* is very frightening! Do kids today really think that way?

I think it would be sensible to start the school day at around 10:30 am. This would reduce congestion by the school run not happening at exactly the same time as people are trying to get to work. Its very noticeable for me when i am commuting in the morning, during the school holidays I get to work about 10 minutes earlier just because i am not getting stuck in school traffic! That being said if the school day starts later it stand to reason it needs to finish later as well, but again it should be at a time which doesn't conflict with the rush hour.

I disagree with this, People should learn to go to bed earlier if there so tired. This point was already said but let me remind you that sports and other activities will be pushed back and this only creates the same cycle that was presented with earlier start times. After so many years of school you get used to it and learn to be awake by the time your on the bus. School is preparing us for the real world which start times are not based on us they are based on the job. Pushing times back will only make it worse in the end.

I guess you'll want your employer to plan his company around your sleep schedule too?

Go to bed earlier. It is more healthy and you accomplish more. The most productive people go to bed early and wake up early.

No, because then you will have to stay in school in later, as in getting out later. That will cause conflict with schools, after school things. Sport games usually start at about 4:00 they now are going to have to be around 6:00 meaning the average student will go home around 5:00 every night. And that is not good.

I disagree, waking up early is definitely a good habit to have, both for discipline and for when you start working later on in life.

Also, it's been proven that concentration is generally better in the morning. And I'd much rather have preferred starting school early and finishing at a reasonable time, so you have the rest of the day left, as opposed to starting later and finishing later; by the time school finished, you'd have little and less time left in the day, so you'd just end up sleeping later, etc. And your body would adjust to a cycle involving going to sleep late and waking up late, which I don't think is a particularly good one during the week - that one's best left for the weekends!

This is not at all a healthy statement to follow. Waking up early from bed for a child makes him or her very much disciplined. From the very beginning of life the child gets used to the habit of waking up early and goes to school. This habit of early rising thus goes on and the child gets the benefit throughout lifetime. The problem arises if the child does not go to the bed early at night by just doing nothing but wasting time unnecessarily. This makes him or her to not have the proper sleep and makes tired at morning as well. But remain wake up till late night and going to school behind schedule can not be a very good solution as it can make the child indiscipline from the very childhood.

The habit to wake up early and have to go to school is a way of disciplining a child and the only reason most of us do not get enough sleep or rest is because we stay up till late unnecessarily. The problem is not with the early morning schedule it is with our own sleeping habits.

If a school day will start late it will obviously end late as well and by the time you get to your last lectures you will be too exhausted to concentrate so a late school start is really no solution to improve performance in class.

School should start early in the morning, generally between 8:00am and 9:00am. Even if you go to bed as late as 11:00pm at night, that should still give you approximately eight hours of sleep. I agree that it is not always pleasant to get up early in the morning to go to school, especially on a cold and dark winter morning. Yet students might as well get used to this at an early age, because once in the workforce, most people are expected to be at work no later than 9:00am, and very often people will go in earlier, especially if they are commuting from the suburbs.

If school were to start at 10:30am, as someone here suggested, you would lose more than half of the morning. Additionally, there would be no way to fit in the entire curriculum by 3:00pm in the afternoon, which would mean that school would likely drag out until about 5:00pm. This would leave no time for after-school activities, like sports, choir, a school play, or other projects.

I don't know, in college you make your own schedule, so people take classes later in the day, but I gotta tell ya, it makes no difference because it all depends on what time you go to sleep. As long as you get between 7-9 hours of sleep a night, you won't be tired regardless of what time the class starts. But if you like going to sleep at 3 AM, even having a 10 AM class puts you back to sleep.
