Russia was never really that powerful. It just felt the need to pretend to be because of the Cold
War that America forced it into. Beneath the presence, its economy was slowly disintegrating. Freed
of the burden of holding onto an unwilling empire, and holding abundant oil reserves while oil is
rocketing in price, Russia is well positioned to rebuild some of its power.
"forced???" Russia wasn't really "forced" into the cold war. although the stalling of the second front didn't help the situation, the cold war was a mutual fault.
