The Civil war was about STATES RIGHTS not slavery as such.
Even Robert E. Lee's enemies......respected his character and nobility.
I respect Robert E Lee, I understand he was acting on principles he considered noble, and I consider
him a major historical figure of the US. One of the greatest generals that ever lived - YES. One
of the greatest men who ever lived - HARDLY. You're placing him up there in contest with Jesus
Christ, Ghandi, Buddha, Confucious, Einstein, etc. He may have been a great military leader but he
hardly makes the short list for greatest men who ever lived. Also let's not forget the fact that
his side was trying to preserve slavery.
What is the definition of a great man? Some one who helps man kind? Well at this point in time i
would probably help man kind and the whole world by killing off 80-85% of the worlds human
population as to help stabilize resources. Does that make me a great man?
