Rev. Wright Is A Racist
This is a friendly debate, please keep it clean. Racist 1. A belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others. 2. A policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination. 3. Hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

I don't like pointing fingers at people for being racist, but I definitely agree with you.

His preachings are both divisive and racist. A church with only one race is also divisive. A divisive environment will lead to racism - if it hasn't already.

He has so much pent up hatred inside of him that he needs to express in better ways.

It makes me pity.

No.

He just has a chip on each shoulder - which actually? Makes him a very "balanced" viewpoint-person ;-)

I mean... I think one definition would've been enough to get us up to speed on the word but i suppose you wouldn't want to be prejudice against the other variations... Still you can hardly hold a black man holding a grudge against white men... There's a pretty clear difference between a historical grudge and a modern course toward violence or even derision... Wright being a racist doesn't seem to bear any significance for obama... That aside nothing he says or does seems terribly racist to me... He just seems black and "bombastic" like he put himself... Yall need more black friends... And yea he definitely hates America, good thing he has the freedom to do such or else that might be something else he could get on the news for to argue not being fair... But he can't, since most people hate America right now inside and outside... Cmon

Jeremiah Wright is not a racist. The historical record is clear. White Americans, while exterminating and subjugating the indigenous coloured population of their continent, took negroes from their home in Africa, kept them as slaves, abused them and forced them to work on their plantations.

When slavery ended, a period of more subtle discrimination began, the Jim Crow era, in which blacks were effectively denied the right to vote and participate fully in American life. This came to an end only in the 1970s.

Support for Civil Rights among Democrats led to the erosion of Democratic support in large parts of the country, bringing about the political domination of the Republican party ever since. Negroes were experimented on by white American scientists in the Tuskegee program, being denied treatment (without their consent) for the medical problems they were experiencing.

With such a history, it is only right and proper that blacks are wary of whites in America. It would be foolish in the extreme for them to be anything else. That justified wariness does not constitute hatred. And even if it did, it would not necessarily be hatred of the white race generally, only of white people in America with their history of oppression. Unless you can find some quote that expresses hatred against white people generally, including those living outside of America, you cannot conclude that Wright is a racist. In fact, most of Wright's quotes say nothing about "Whites" at all, only about "America".

Everything Wright said that I am aware of is true, with the possible exception of his claims about the origins of the AIDS virus. I haven't looked into that carefully enough to make a judgement about it, but even that I wouldn't rule it out a priori. America has been involved in many nefarious things and Wright was right to point that out. "America's chickens are coming home to roost" is a much better analysis of the events of September 11th than George W. Bush's "They hate us for our freedoms".

If it was a white preacher with a white church talking about black people, he's be a racist. Double standards? not necessarily you, but society in general. I was beat up by a group of black people (I should say 'attempted beat up' Does that give me reason to be wary of all black people?
