Religion Is Standing In The Way Of Science Progressing And Moving Forward.
It seams almost anything science tries religion says its wrong. Religion is standing in the way of important scientific discoveries that could save the lives of millions.

Not all religious people are against science. However religion as an institution reacts quite negatively when scientific findings are felt to contradict religious ideology. Also people tend to filter all new information through their belief system before crediting or discrediting the findings.

If science was unheeded by religion and ethic protestors then we could be miles ahead of our time now. We could have perfected cloning and the need for organ donors could be illiminated. World huner could be reduced with the introduction of GM crops to third world countries. It's insane. We could have achieved much more than we have if we weren't stopped.

yea....like the Nazi's and their experiments with the Jews. we could have learned much more if we could treat humans anyway we want and kill them in science experiments. (sarcasm)

No-one can prove that a so called God created the universe, it's obvious that it was science. Science is the truth, you can't deny it. Religion is a silly way of life.

Quite possibly true. Religion stands in the way of rational thought and science is based on rational thought. QED.

Religion and science are constantly getting in each others way. That's the way it always has been and probably always will be.

I agree. Many theists consider things such as genetic engineering and cloning to be immoral. Also, many people in the US want creationism to be taught in school instead of evolution.

Consider these words from the book “There Is A God,” by the world’s most prolific, one time atheistic philosopher/author, Antony Flew - “In considering our immediate experience, let us perform a thought experiment. Think for a minute of a marble table in front of you. Do you think that, given a trillion years or infinite time, this table could suddenly or gradually become conscious, aware of its surroundings, aware of its identity the way you are?.....the atheist position is that, at some point in the history of the universe, the impossible and the inconceivable took place. Undifferentiated matter - here we include energy - at some point, became “alive,” then conscious, then conceptually proficient, then an ‘I.’ But returning to our table, we see why this is simply laughable. The table has none of the properties of being conscious and, given infinite time, it cannot ‘acquire’ such properties.”

Is it standing in the way of more nuclear weapons? How about biochemical weapons? Good thing we have the military to move science ahead.

No it isn't. If this was true, then why were so many great scientists Christians? Why do we have a patron saint of science!?!? What I do not approve of is doing blatantly immoral things in the name of science.

People stand in the way of progress, not religion. Religion itself can not do anything. People can do things.
Religion, in some form, has existed since the beginning of time. And we have come a long way in science even with religion existing. It is the individual people that make law, vote for lawmakers, make discoveries, decide what to research.
If religion was standing in the way, you would think that countries where religion is forbidden would be solving a lot more of scientific issues than the countries where religion does play a strong role.

 I think I confused my self with your comment, please help;
Religion last I check consisted of people or better still people doing, How can it exist by itself, Even God would not be God without people doing. By the way what country is religion forbidden-The Republic of Umpha dumpha?

Not really. Science is going to progress forward regardless. To be honest, the scientific community doesn’t really pay any attention to the crazed religious fanatics who argue against scientific aspects.

Hizashi, do ethical considerations have any bearing on science? Should it? Would science work better without it?

No. It's not. Only some people who use religion as an excuse are standing in the way of science. The religions themselves are perfectly capable of agreeing with science and supporting it given the right interpretation. Religion is also capable of standing in its way.

It all depends on the people within the religion and partially on the religion itself (which interpretations it opens itself to and how easily)
