Religion Is Really Just "Received Philosophy"...
...unless you are starting your own; then you are either a prophet or insane.

Mainly, but some religions, like Judaism, encourage thinking and questioning. Sadly, I can't say the same about some divisions of Christianity.

Yes. Religion is always philosophy but philosophy is not always religion.
Philosophy is thinking on the whys in life. Don't hold this against me as it is a very definitional debate. Early people thought the world worked because there were great gods who controlled the world and caused earthquakes and volcanoes because they didn't understand it. To their logic only gods could cause such great travesties.
Philosophy though is not always religious. I think therefore i am. Is there any religion in that? No its just stating that obviously since i can think then i exist.

No.

Thinking for yourself is a most wise and astute way to live your life, and to draw your own conclusions about life and about God and about anything.

I therefore, disagree with this debate on those points.

Religion is a way of life defined to man by GOD
at various intervals. All religion preach peace, truth, justice, honour, honesty, civic laws. If it weren't for religion how many law would you have. Historically speaking all non religious law were for either the rich or the powerful.
Religion taught that all men are equal, not philosophy. It only explained what was already mentioned. By the regions.

Religion is a way of living, that conforms to a set of rules put forth by a perceived Supreme being.

Philosophy analyzes all rules whether they seem bad or good for the purpose of discovering whether they are legitimate, or beneficial to the common good.

Religion Live by the Rules
Philosophy Questions them.
They are totally different.

But who gave the rules to the prophet that started the religion? He must have RECEIVED them somehow, or they wouldn't be divine!
