Sometimes it is. But not always. Many religions offer a way of life. The biggest time it was used to
suppress ideas was in the time of Luther etc. Many were ideas outlawed by the bible as sins, other
ideas were not of the bible, such as the dark ages. Keeping people from having a copy of the bible,
and the church teaching doctrine otherwise not found in the bible and having its own system with
indulgences and the such. |

There is a grain of truth to what you posted, indeed it CAN be a tool for suppressing ideas. BUT
it's more than that and I'd bet you already know that. Religion has fostered art more than rubbish,
architecture more than mear shelter, literacy more than idiocy, order more than anarchy, peace more
often than war, charity more then usury. Sure there are exceptions, some pretty big ones, but it
isn't simply a tool for suppression of ideas. In fact religions always inspire some imagination and
wonder, they aren't simply shut up sit down and do what you're told. |
