I look at what religion creates in society, bad diversity, discontent and fear. And then the people
it creates, Osama Bin Laden, Pat Robertson, Fred Phelps, Islamic extremist need I go on. All of
these are fighting in the name of the religion they prescribe to. Are these sort of people good for
society, I don't think so. And I agree with imright20 and ur_wrong, there is no logical reason
whatsoever for gay marriage not to be allowed. |

People's beliefs these days are often completely irrational because they are religiously driven.
Why is gay marriage illegal? Religion. There's no logical reason whatsoever.
Why are certain words illegal to say on TV? Religion. There's no logical reason to ban a word.
Why is marijuana illegal? Religion. It has no adverse effects on anyone except the user. In fact,
most laws designed to protect you from yourself rather than others wouldn't exist if it weren't for
religion.
Religion is costing us our rights. |

If there was no, true, religion in God, just motivation religions [or so to speak] I think there
would be so much less to argue about. Especially when it comes to homosexuality, considering many
people who are against homosexuality are faithful to God, since in the bible it says 'a union of MAN
and a WOMEN' or something along those lines. |

So are you trying to saying reading the Bible does more harm than good? |

At the basic level, religion provides a cohesive property to a community in an effort to bring
people together. I'd think this is more so good than bad. In terms of society as I think humans have
a harder time getting over cultural and racial differences; religion usually takes a backseat unless
you've got a pastor like Rev. Wright... |

You'll often see me on the side sticking up for science and questioning major religious beliefs.
But honestly, I still think religion does more good than harm to society. We're still capable of
terrible things, even major atrocities committed in the name of God, but the world was a far colder,
crueler, more deadly place in the pagan or atheist centuries which preceded our modern religions. |
