Religion And Science Cannot Co-exist.
Does religion impede the progress of science? Does science contradict the word of God? Fill in please.

I think it comes down to what you mean by religion. The more liberal religions have no problem co-existing with science, it's the fundamentalist versions which demand that their dogmatic fantasies must be true and therefore no one can dare question them and any science that doesn't agree should not be allowed to exist.

Get rid of the fundamentalists and I'll move my comment to the other side.

Science and religion can co-exist if people just realize that science explains religion. For example, astrologists have proved that back near the time of Jesus' birth there was a bright shining star, the very one used by the three kings to guide them to Bethlehem.

Many of the fathers of science did their scientific research because they believed in God. Many of them, aside from their scientific works, also wrote theological works.
Science and religion can cooperate, except for when certain presuppositions are wrongly given the name, "science".

They can learn to co-exist if they stopped delving into each others matters. For example, religion has no right to say what is unethical in the science world and science can't say what is wrong in the bible (publicly)

Well, I believe that I will soon prove to you that I now "OWN" ;-) this debate topic.
Thanks for the opportune subject-matter, by the way ;-)

Okay, so here's how it is:

1. I was once an Atheist.
2. I have not been an Atheist for some time since.
3. I found the proof of the existence of a Creator God IN
a science book. Not church at all.
4. Science is in sync with Religion as H2O is with water ;-)
5. Science and Religion are two horns on the same Bull ;-)

Thomas Aquinas: "For every effect there has to be a cause".
(the bottom-line of all Science)=FORCE OF NATURE ;-)
Try and fight with Science when it Underscores Divine Existence!
LOL no winning that combination ;-) LOL.

That's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard! Religion and science already do co-exist.

There are religious people and there are scientists, and there are even some religious scientists. That's co-existing! This is a completely ridiculous thing to even suggest, let alone propose as a debate.

Ibanex_87, you should really start looking for a new place to live, because right now you seem to be living under a rock!

They can co-exsist, and if you were a Muslim you could find proof in the quran, and I'm not talking about a quran translated by a random person, or even a government, but you learn Arabic and translate it yourself, and you will not believe how advanced the quran has been and still is compared to science. And it made these facts 1400 years ago, please don't say its been changed because we've been memorizing it since its revelation, to prevent changes

Depends on the person's religion- their version of it.

Why not?

Yeah, sure, some religions can't coexist with science, and some branches of religions can't. That doesn't mean all, though. There's many religions that either support science or are pretty much indifferent to it.

Actually, science has begun to 'prove the point' of some religions, mainly things dealing with spiritual relations with other people and all. Or, at the least prove that some of the things said by some religions work, even if they don't know how yet.

Also, it's really a matter of interpretation. You can interpret religious scripture however you want. If you choose to interpret it so that it doesn't coexist with science, then you're the one clashing, not the religion.

Don't say that the religion can't coexist with science. Almost all of them can, given the right interpretation. It's the people who follow them that can't deal with someone apparently contradicting their interpretations.

Because religion is based on protecting a set of truths, where as science aims to uncover truths.

Correction - Its actually science that mixes in with religion, look at the the Islamic religion, the Qur'an contains so many scientific facts which were all revealed 1400 years ago and some of these are being proven today and some have yet to be proven.

That's a lie. If you look back in history most of the greatest scientists were Christians. Don't scream "The Catholic Church and Galileo blah blah blah" Galileo didn't have proof of his theory, and this was about the interpretation of scripture. If religion and science can't coexist, why do Christian schools teach science? Why do Christian colleges have science majors? Why is there a patron saint of science? Science does not contradict the word of God.

In that case why doesn't religion embrace new scientific ideas ie evolution and the big bang? because it contradicts the word of God.

That makes no sense. At no point in your incoherent sentence did you even come close to what can be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this forum is now dumber for having read your comment. I award you no praise and may God have mercy on your soul.
