| Racism Can Sometimes Be A Good Thing. |
| I think racism can sometimes be a good thing, I don't think it has to be criminal and at times, it unites people, what do you think? |

I don't agree racism is a good thing but if we call someone black it is racist thy call us white it
is not why? Also they had to stop calling a black board a black board now the call i a white board
don't see white people complaining its racist its all stupid we are all equal ust people that's i so

I think that it’s possible that racism is not always a bad thing. What is racism but the idea
that others are bad or wrong because of their race. Could it be possible that someone’s race
makes them wrong? Or is this simply discrimination on the grounds of that race?
Sometimes, I believe racism is a good thing. Racism helps because it gives people a sense of them
and us, sometimes that is a strengthening of us due to presence of a ‘them’. In the Second World
War, it was believed that ‘the only good German is a dead German’ or ‘the only good Jap is a
dead Jap’ Now, that is also racism but it served a certain purpose at the time. Is it possible
that there is a sort of good racism that is possible. During times like this, people unite behind a
certain racism. But this is not considered as wrong, or bad, it’s considered a type of
patriotism, it’s considered as ‘getting behind your country’. It’s natural, we were once
very anti-French because they were our enemy. It’s natural that when one group perceives the
other as ANY kind of threat, the group gets behind itself to the exclusion of the other.
Recently, countries have become over run with other races, so the British are surrounded by other
races. This is bound to create a kind of cultural them and us and define themselves, the British
make jokes about the others, the ‘them’.
I’m not talking about hatred of race, but about a lightweight sense of racism that relieves
tension and prevents the greater hatred from occurring. And so, a racist joke, in my mind, is not a
means of making things worse, not a means of expressing hatred and what we call racism, but instead,
it is a way of releasing the bad feeling in what can be a harmless way, a very harmless way.
Some would argue that it makes that idea of the other race as a joke acceptable to us, this makes
them and us even more divided. But we are divided. Racism against British Pakistanis for instance,
is not racism. One cannot be racist against one’s own race. Recently, a Northern Irishmen was
sentenced to prison time for calling a Welsh woman a ‘f**king English b*tch’. He was convicted
and sentenced. But all he was doing was relieving an annoyance when she cut him up in a traffic
incident. He letting off steam. He was not burning mosques, he was not beating up teenagers of
another race, he was letting off steam. Surely the police should make a distinction between
letting off steam and intent to damage or assault.
If calling someone a name is illegal, then why is it only racial slurs that are illegal? Surely
they just pick on ANYthing they can find as part of their letting off steam. It is wrong to pick on
that element, but is it so awful? Next, saying something about someone’s height, size or gender
will be wrong. That means jokes about someone’s size would be considered illegal and jokes about
someone’s mother in law would also be illegal because they discriminate on the basis of some
specific peculiar to that person.
Surely racism, like anything is not always a bad thing, sometimes we need it, although it is dark
and unenviable, sometimes we just require it place ourselves as opposite to them. |

Hatred of a person based on their appearance is never a good thing. End of story. |

as in treating other races differently can not be tolerated |

At one point in time racism had beneficial elements. Humans work off of pattern recognition. So
back in the day you if you were out hunting, or exploring and encountered someone you would need to
make a quick decision about whether they were friend or foe. So you would recognize people who were
of your tribe, or an allied tribe based off of their race, and would thus know, instinctively, that
you could relax, if you saw someone of a different race, you instinctively knew they weren't
necessarily friendly and would take a defensive posture. It helped protect you. However, in the
modern world, this notion is completely lost and racism no longer has any redeeming quality, and
admittedly, the one positive quality it did have was relatively minor. |

Intolerance is a terrible crime. It separates and people and then organizes them into groups, which
destroys diversity. |

Why should it be divided as an 'us' and a 'them'? The days are long gone when humans went around in
tribes and fought with other tribes.
Sadly however this prehistoric xenophobia still exists as the unknown and un-understood (is that a
word) is still feared.
My personal opinion is that human nature gives us a choice of trying to understand and enlighten
ourselves of our mysteries or to simply dispel and disregard what we don't know and clutch on to
what we do.
People who are racist either simply do not understand/comprehend the differences or clutch on to
their similarities with their own race so much that they make themselves feel superior by degrading
everything else.

Racism is really....dumb. You should judge someone because of their skin color,language,where they
come from,we're all the same on the inside,we're all human beings.I just don't get it. |

This can not be good thing in any aspect of life. Racism is not at all acceptable whatever the
situation comes the way. This is nothing but a kind of hatred that people possess for another people
only for the amount of the melanin in their skin. The negative attitude towards the people of other
race always makes them feel to be ridiculed. The humanity should be the first priority of people and
any body would not get hurt for their skin color. This should be the hymn modern man. The people who
think that racism is good would be better to be judged as an assassinator of humanity and thus
should not be appreciated in any aspect of life. The ill feelings towards the other race would not
give any positive thing in life without the hatred. Thus racism must be judged as a criminal
offense. |

I can't imagine a time where racism would ever be a good thing. At best, it may be neutral, in
most, it's a negative. It takes a pretty shallow person to hate someone else for the amount of
melanin in their skin. |

Racism in my opinion is a form of hatred. It's a form of negativity towards something that people
can not choose. Although people do use it as a form of comedy and laughter does seem to unite us,
there is always someone that is hurt and or offended in the process. There are so many different
forms of racism, stereotypes, and just being ridiculed, and those things believe it or not, they are
very wrong. The things that people can be ridiculed for may not always be true. |

I was going to post this topic, but you beat me to it. However, I was also going to vote against it
because I do not believe racism could ever be a good thing. Just the term "racism" is enough to make
me think it's bad. People are killed in "race wars" and genocide because of their cultural
background. Besides, if you are racist, then someone will be racist to you, creating a cycle of hate
that no human being should have to endure. How is this good? |

I think racism is horrible, and I'm sick of reverse racism. If you want to be treated equal, start
acting equal. Cracker and whitey are just as bad as any racist black names. |

I believe that racism is always a bad thing. In no way does one man have the right to judge another
man based on his skin color or culture. Racism is a form of hate and I believe that there is no
situation possible where racism would be alright. Anyone who thinks that racism is alright is
probably a racist.
People cannot change the color of their skin. Therefore it is not fair to make comment or judge
another person by their skin color. It is not like their weight or hair color. Skin color is
something that cannot be changed.
I believe that no human being has the right to comment on, joke about, or degrade any other human
being because of their race. Racism is hate and it is wrong ALL THE TIME |
