It is the reasonable thing to do, for the reasons already given by Cephus, StBalders and Evidence.

Having checked with exactly what Evidence was talking about I have to agree.

Evidence pointed to an example of who would be checked at an airport. We are checking more thoroughly now due to Islamic terrorist attacks. Now obviously if you are Muslim you are not automatically a terrorist. But in today's climate if you are a terrorist with a bomb you are very likely to be Muslim.

I have heard Muslim people in the paper, on the news, and on phone ins berate the fact that they are checked at airports and other places more rigorously and frequently than white people. Well I hope so. What are they suggesting, that an old lady should be checked as well, or instead of, just to be Politically Correct and to appear "fair". What a pointless exercise. I feel for those who have come under more suspicion since 9/11 and 7/7 but their annoyance should be aimed at those who have killed innocents in the name of Islam and not at the authorities trying to keep the public safe.

The same policy of "profiling" occurs everywhere, everyday consciously or unconsciously. If 3 people walked into a sweetshop, one an old lady, one a businessman and 1 a teenager with a burberry cap. If I was the shopkeeper i know which one I would be keeping a close eye on.

yes but individual profiling in your last paragraph is not done by a state or government which is very different. No governing body of a democracy should be able to profile.

This whole racial profiling thing has gotten way out of hand. The color of one's skin is part of one's overall physical description, it's just idiotic to say that the murder suspect is wearing blue jeans, a green shirt, but we're not allowed to tell you what color skin he had. It's stupid to be looking for a criminal in a predominantly black neighborhood and not be stopping suspicious blacks to questioning. It's moronic to be in a conflict with a religion made up primarily of arabic people and not be looking more closely at arabic people. That doesn't mean you treat them any differently, that doesn't mean you pull them out of line for no reason, it means that you use what you know about the criminal or potential criminal in order to make it more likely to catch them.

People need to get over themselves.

Racial profiling is a way to say that all people of a race act an think the same and this is not true. Racial profiling is discrimination pure and simple.

Wow, I fail to see how the color of skin or continent you are on makes you a criminal or not.
It is not sensible a thought to say the least.

No matter what, it is STILL racism/discrimination. Its illegal in all 50 states and if a person feels that the arresting officer or any other person of the law that they come into contact with is enacting racial profiling, they are entitled to sue. An officer found guilty of racial profiling automatically is fired (or placed on suspension, depends on the jurisdiction), fined, and could possibly face a prison sentence. I would never agree with racial profiling. It doesn't prevent threats to national security; It creates them.

We used racial profiling after 911 and arrested alot of terrorist, we had no more attacks from terrorist, until O'dunbell got in office, then we had another attack (Ft Hood) and he even knew this guy was off his cracker.
Racial profiling....all for it. How does it hurt to just check someone out, if they aren't guilty, there should be no problem..

Not even a constitutional concept in the remotest sense.

So dumb.

Where do you get ideas like that its so ignorant. Ethnic extractions have nothing whatever to do with anything of a moral nature, and certainly shouldn't be made into a legal one!

Tastes in appearance concerning race is unrelated to racism.
Prejudices in legal arenas is a different matter.

It makes perfect sense. there needs to be some sort of bias when it comes down to this countries national secruity, there comes a time when we hav to be less worried about how we treat people when human lives are at risk. I am an african american. more than 78% of the theft in milwaukee is done by African American males. So when Shakur the corner store owner does not take his eyes off me when i enter the store it's nothing personal. The same way it's nothing personal when I am keeping my eyes on him when he is boarding the plane I am on

Honestly, get this through your head, more Muslims are being caught because Muslims are being targeted more, according to official American statistics i believe the attacks from al-kida was something like 50 minus. Honestly i think it was 25 but I'm exaggerating in your favour. However the highest attacks was from a christian group i think that was over 900! Check yourself. Anyways isn't it surprising how al-kida is still more popular?

I sense a conspiracy...

When an individual is opposed to or has animus toward a system or a society, the individual is likely to be a criminal. When an entire group of people is opposed to or has animus toward a system or a society, the system or society is likely to be a criminal state. Of the animosity of blacks in the 1960s, the IRA in Ireland, and the Muslims today, none of that anger came out of nowhere.

"Racial profiling" is a criminal state protecting itself from a backlash against its criminality.
