Public Officials And Police Officers Who Break The Law Should Do More Time Per Crime Than The Average Person
Simply put, in most cases, public officials and peace officers who are convicted of breaking the law should receive longer, harsher sentences than the average citizen, as society's retribution toward justice for him/her betraying the public trust.

Definitely, they certainly can't argue that they didn't realise their act was against the law. They are fully aware of what's legal and illegal.

that argument never works anyway. they just laugh at you and give you the same sentence as they would have if you had admitted to knowing it was illegal.

They committed the same crime. Just because we trusted them more doesn't make what they did any worse.

Actually, such offenses are far more egregious, as they are committed in consideration of intimate knowledge. Moreover, in these cases, these perpetrators would not even have opportunity if not for their positions as representatives of the public trust. They should be used as pinatas ;D

Aren't we all supposed to be equal though? That could be classified as some sort of discrimination, would it not?

We already have crimes such as abusing a position of power and corruption crimes. But I don't think this should be extended to harsher sentences for just any crime, that's holding all police officers to an artificially high standard when they are just human.

Oh spare me...give the cops a break, if someone does not be a cop, all would be anarchy just over-running the society....there has to be some sort of dike to hold back the water.....so to speak
