Professionalism Is Dead In This Country.
Half of the trifling population of what used to be professional individuals are interview clueless. No longer do they dress to impress, but even with degrees they lack personable flare and umph! Tacky diction eating on an interview, no ambition... And these are the ones conducting the interviews, the other half on the interviews are worse. It is no wonder companies and organizations are going out of business. I fear for what's to come for our youth.

I totally agree. In my town there is a huge lack of professionalism. The bad apple in every bunch seems to get the most in the places here. The good ones get punished. Never could figure that one out.

The problem is that our society is so lazy and poorly educated, and our government is so socialist, that people are not punished for failure. The government bails out the airlines and trains and banks when they make bad decisions, so there are no consequences. Companies are full of nonsense jobs, like Conceptual Architect and Business Developer, instead of real jobs like Accountant and Researcher. Business is becoming a giant scam, and businesspeople are nothing but scam artists: Lazy, immature, and unprofessional fast-talkers trying to succeed without working hard.

Professionals are becoming less and less in the office. They are being replaced by unethical, sloppy people. The workplace needs to maintian it's business manner to keep the morale of the company "businesslike". If people think they can slack off in the way they dress, they will slack off in their jobs also.

Not totally true, unless you are interacting in a face to face formal professional meeting with one or several individuals there is not an imediate need for impeciable dress. If you deal with customers (which yes are a major majority of jobs) you need to as well. But the everyday business office has "business casual" for a reason. The more comfortable you are the better you stayed focused on your work. (I'm a former Manhattan Accountant, the most professional work place in America)

I agree entirely. No one cares what anyone thinks anymore, there is no professionalism and no work ethic, most people figure as long as they show up, that should be enough.

What your calling professionalism sounds to me more like personal presentation, which I’ll be honest with you I never gave a hoot about. What I think of as professionalism is more about how well and how hard you work, and that I can say may be under assault but is far from dead in the U.S. (I wasn’t sure what you meant by ‘this country’ so I talked about the one I was most familiar with.)

Our economy right now is struggling/falling behind others (you are right), but this "professionalism" does not make a difference on an economic scale. The "competitive advantage" financial based society that caused this to happen. There is much rhetoric about what the average person "thinks" he/she knows. Nobody is fighting anymore in what we believe will make our country stronger and they make assumptions on biased believes and political opinionated media. Everybody wants to be a critic and complain but nobody steps up to the plate (if you didn't realize we are 1 if not the MOST powerful country in the world this will happen)

Be careful of your arguments towards companies going out of business. Your stating correlation proves causation. (Example: The average income of somebody that owns a Caddilac is higher then other persons, but if i gave somebody a Cadillac does not mean that their income will rise.)
The thing about our society is you get from it what u work for. Yeah an average person can get a decent job and do nothing. But those who have the ambition will rise above the rest. Ask Donald Trump to compare his professional dress to that of Bill Gates (who knocked door to door asking for money to invest)...I believe you will find a these 2 men (2 "mile stone of ambition workers") quit different from each other.
