Prison Isn't Just About Punishment It's There To Help!
When a criminal has been convicted of a crime and sentenced they lose one of the most valuable but yet the took for granteed human right that we have, freedom. This is enough punishment, prisons aren't just their to punish they are there to help the convicted criminal become a better person, so when they do get released back into the community, the chances of them re-offending are decreased. Do you think prison should be all about punishment?

"so when they do get released back into the community, the chances of them re-offending are decreased." - statistically speaking they will break the law again. It's a harsh truth. I remember when I was younger a couple convicts came and spoke in my class. They told us of their plans. Open a barbershop, visit my son at college, you name it. When they left my teacher said, "by a show of hand who thinks these people will never go back to prison?" We all raised our hands. Then my teacher told me the statistics and I was baffled. Changed my stance on prison/rehabilitation forever. Talk to a cop. They will give you the harsh truth. You can't help someone that doesn't want to be helped.

If you are really good they let you out so you can hold up a post office.

Lock them up and melt the key....most in there are reoffenders..hello...tell you anything? Maybe they wouldn't steal a car if they knew they'd go away for the rest of their natural life! How many DUI's does one person have to get before they get locked up for a long period of time> Forcing AA on them doesn't work.

Prison is a breeding grounds for deviants. There is no such thing as forced rehabilitation. No one does anything unless they want to. I have experience with the prison system and if it were up to me I would go through and put down every repeat felon. Why should they get free room and board while the rest of us have to bust our butts to support our families and our tax dollars to support them. A murderer will always be a murderer. A rapist, child molester, crack dealer will always be just that. Sick, deviant individuals who have no place in a civilized world.

The ultimate reason for prison is to keep dangerous people off the streets, not to punish them or turn their lives around.

So when they are in there what happens to them, do they not help them better people, and punish them by taking away their freedom!

The objective of prison is supposed to be two-fold:punishment for those who cannot or will not obey the laws of society, and rehabilitation for those who truly wish to change their lives.
A balance, rather than swinging one way or the other, is truly needed.
