You Can Get A Longer Sentence For Selling Piracy DVDs Than For Downloading Child Porn
You can get a longer sentence for selling piracy DVDs than for downloading child porn. What a stupid law.

That's disgusting, okay piracy is costing the industry millions each year but its only money. Child porn is about exploitation, sometimes rape and sickening freaks who deserve to be thrown in jail and throw a way the key. You get longer for piracy that child porn that is sick and a demonstation of how screwed up the system is.

Well, of course pirating movies gets a longer sentence than trading kiddy porn.

1) Corporations don't profit from kiddy porn. Just look at the profitability of the adult porn industry and corporations falling over each other to sell it, where once they wouldn't touch it at all. If kiddy porn became legal in even one country, you can bet the farm that companies like Time/Warner would fight to be among the first in line to pay for the rights to it.

2) Children don't have expensive lawyers to fight on their behalf. Corporations do.

Child porn is a disgusting plague and anyone who distributes it should be sentenced to life in prison. Pirate DVDs do no harm. Child porn is a disgrace to humanity.

That makes me feel ill. I think child abusers should be delivered to the people and suffer the consequences of the nations wrath.

I completely agree with this. People can receive up to ten years imprisonment for piracy, whereas people involved in child pornography are sometimes released after a few years. It makes no sense. Child pornography causes serious emotional distress, DVD piracy causes businesses who already have a ridiculous amount of money to lose a fraction of it. It's nothing compared to child pornography. The law isn't right.

Totally ridiculous. This stinks. It clearly shows that the Government values money more than its people. Business loses a lot of money from downloading and piracy whereas child porn merely wrecks lives, not their concern.

Producing or distributing child porn is so clearly far more reprehensible than downloading a DVD or your favourite songs from one of many file-sharing networks, and then selling these. In fact, I would argue that peer-to-peer file sharing for private use is simply a minor violation of dubious copyright laws, which causes no pain, except perhaps to a celebrity's already thick wallet, or to the inflated coffers of the entertainment industry.

Those engaging in child porn, however, should be persecuted using the full force of the law and authorities should focus much more on this criminal activity, than on whether or not Johnny spends his weekends in the basement downloading his favourite flicks, and then sharing them with his friends for a few dollars.

Downloading movies and music from the Internet is an issue of convenience; it's simply easier, faster and cheaper to do this, than to have to go off to a Blockbusters outlet with a limited offering of films to buy. No one is emotionally scarred or hurt in any way by this activity and as such, one cannot even compare it to the distribution of online child porn.

It looks like in the States that piracy has a max sentence of 3 years, while the child porn thing has a minimum sentence of 5 years. But if that's the case where you're from, that's pretty messed up, I agree.

If the kid wants to do it, let them do it. Seriously. I'd say stealing is worse than letting someone, no matter who, put up naked pictures of themselves. It's alright with me as long as it's consensual.

Did no one stop and think that the distribution and selling is spreading the problem. In the eyes of the government, where everyone is a number/statistics, they seek to stop spreading it as the first solution to eradicated the sick problem. So though I am the hugest advocate for harsher punishments for child molesters and those who allow child pornography to ruin their life and steal the innocence of little children. But, I have to look from a legal standpoint and I understand. The ones who watch and the ones who distribute are both in need of serious restoration. But in looking toward the future, this is the best the government feels they can do right now.
