, in the United States there are presently only two states where both parents of the teen have to consent for the teenager to be able to have an abortion. However, in Mississippi, where both parents have to consent for their daughter’s abortion. The abortion rate in Mississippi is much lower. From the vast difference that is shown in the numbers above it can be concluded that that having the consent of both parents before letting a child have an abortion minimizes the amount of abortions in one year. In a casual conversation with my pediatrician, Dr. Anthony Francis, MD., he informed me that seventy four percent of women pay for abortions from out of their own pockets, and thirteen percent are paid by private insurance, and thirteen percent of abortions are covered by Medicaid or federal funding,. According to Dr. Francis’s recollection, that seventy four percent of abortions are paid for, out of pocket, a large percentage of which, are working women. Teenagers however, because they normally do not have a steady income, without ‘parental consent’ a large percentage of their abortion cost would most likely be funded by the federal or local government. Why should our federal tax money be used in this way? If teenagers minimize or eliminate the amount of times they have abortions, the savings that is realized, the federal government can use it in more productive ways such as to help to reduce the high poverty level among young children in the United States, improve our failing education system, and establish a national healthcare plan for youths.
