Human nature prompts people to seek pleasure. Pleasure is only restricted if it will prove detrimental to oneself or to others. Humans strive to receive pleasure throughout life whether this be physically or mentally, for example the pleasure of being knowledgeable and so-on. In everything one does, in the end they seek pleasure. When one gives to charity they seek pleasure of the mind to know that they have helped someone in need. This in turn leads on to whether one can do a selfless act.
Pleasure is the outcome of some things which we achieve and often strive for however life is often
more regarding to survival, commitments and getting by as best that we can. However to feel real
pleasure i suppose that we have to understand and have felt pain too. It also depends on a persons
individual outlook to how far they strive to their own or others pleasure and their involvement in
that.
Survival is the goal of life but because humans have advanced so far with new types of technology
that survival is no longer a serious thing and pleasure is easier to acquire. Animals are a type of
life right? Well if animals are busy out there surviving in cold barren areas then obviously their
lives aren't about pleasure they are just out there to survive. In a extreme situation- stuck
without food or water do you
a. Go play with your wife/husband
b. Kill and eat your wife/husband
c. Search for food and if not possible eat your wife/husband
Glorifying God is the goal of life. Most of the time that is also pleasurable to me, but
occasionally He is glorified through my suffering (not pleasurable to me).
I almost voted for this, but had to cast the vote on this side because it ignores the one
demonstrable goal of life: Reproduction.
I totally agree that we're not here to work ourselves to death, give our lives and resources to
imaginary beings (and their flesh-and-blood representatives), or sacrifice ourselves in war. And I
agree that knowledge is pleasure, and furthermore posit that working toward the betterment of
society is a form of pleasure.
But all of it would be incomplete without someone to pass it down to.
Next time you comment some advice would be to leave some explanation for your comment because the statement you have left is meaningless when we are debating.
Growth is better than pleasure. Most significant growth comes from pain. A person who only finds
pleasure does not fully relate well to those who are undergoing it. Those who have suffered the
most and made meaning of it are generally amazingly wonderful and offer the most.
Those who have suffered pain do not desire any more unless to discover pleasure in a form. These people who have suffered the most have received pleasure as they have been able to make meaning of it and have a comfort of mind which is pleasurable. Pleasure covers everything in our lives. Many who have been threw pain either find that pleasurable or seek something that is pleasurable. You say growth is better than pleasure but when you grow you receive a sense of pleasure at the end of the whole process. This is because you have grown mentally or physically and therefore enjoy the fact you have done so hence finding it pleasurable. Pleasure relates very much to knowledge.
