Yes, I have considered creating this debate many times. I'm glad you did. Pink Floyd is the greatest
band in the world, and none others even compare. |

I can't debate against this! In fact, I was going to post something concerning Pink Floyd in light
of the recent death of Richard Wright. What can be said of Pink Floyd that hasn't been said for
decades? There is no band like Pink Floyd...period. From the days of Syd Barret to the splittling
of the band with Roger Waters and the continuation with David Gilmour; Pink Floyd has proven that
their music is eternal and original.
Shall I go on? Not necessary. Pink Floyd's influence speaks for itself. They are a band that
really matters simply because of their originality and history. |

Ok, that's your opinion. |

Not to me. They were a good band, but now not very many people actually listen to them. Most don't
even know them. |

If every pink floyd song all of a sudden ceased to exist, i probably wouldn't care at all. So to me
they don't matter, but other bands do. |

Pink Floyd is great. The influence of Dark Side is huge. Gilmour's solo debut is a great album.
Lol...but they ain't the only band that really matters. |

Not even close, and I grew up in that era.....there are so many from my generation. |

I prefer Agni (Agnee).
I only heard one song from them (Sadho Re) and like it more than the great "We don't need no
education" (Another brick in the wall) song.
I bet none knows what I'm talking about 'cause they're Indian.
Foreign music rules. People limit themselves to only U.S. And English music when there's a whole
world out there. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|

Nah. Every generation is going to have those brekathrough bands. I'd take ACDC over Pink Floyd
regardless of which one came first. Then I'd have to go with my generation bands like Foo Fighters,
Sublime, and the Chili Peppers. And tell me how anyone can overtake Green Day??? |

Nothing is worse than people who "think" their tastes are good and everyone else's is bad. As my
music teachers told me many times, a person who truly appreciates music appreciates all types
of music and many different types of musicians.
Pink Floyd had a few good albums, but in terms of influence, importance, and record sales Yes
surpassed them.
If you were really interested in good music, you'd listen to music that makes you work to
understand it, not pre-ambient LSD rock. There is no one "best" band.
Edit:
Hey, summa07, I'm not anti-PF. I listen to Dark Side and The Wall as much as anyone. I just don't
buy the line that any one group or genre is best, especially when most people's idea of "good" is
what the speaker likes personally. If I said my personal tastes and six favourite groups, I doubt
that ten people in a hundred like at least three of them as well.
Good music challenges the listener, and bad music panders to the lowest common denominator.

They were excellent at times and innovative, but the only band that really matters? Nah. |
