Personally Attacking A Poster Is Unnecessary In Debate.
Instead of focusing on the person who posted the debate, how about we focus on the issue the poster is posting? If I were to judge a debate, it would be hard for me to ignore the insults another is making about the opponent. The personal attacks or insults from one to another has a strong influence on how I judge. If you can not attack the issue without attacking the person, then you will not get positive feedback from me. Being insulting to the opponent takes away from the point you are trying to make about the issue.

I would say it's unnecessary, but not altogether useless. It's a sure fire way to test your opponent's resolve and their ability to debate.

Plus, if you're really pished off with someone, it helps let off some steam.

Jakers, if your issues are Anger Management issues, go see a Doctor for that: not bludgeon your debate opponents using your words as if they were a pair of boxing gloves: the debaters are not there for your whipping-boy. Unless that is an agreed-upon method of the mutual game.....that is. otherwise, Words As Blood Sport is not cool.

"What a stupid idea. What an idiot. This is the dumbest thing I have every heard" Some people start their debates like this and it is quite annoying. This person has not insulted you, so why do you feel the need to insult them? Is it so hard to say, "I disagree, because..."

I know this is very upsetting. I hate all of these negative commercials and propaganda. I think I might vote for "Mickey Mouse". He got a good amount of votes last election. It's my way of saying I don't wish to be involved in these political shenanigans.

Attacking your opponent's credibility helps your case and is a legitimate debate strategy.
