What does one mean when he says, "We are all equal"? Certainly, in a functional sense, we are not
all equal--IQ's are different, athletic abilities are different, looks are different, life styles
are different, etc. Etc. So in what sense are we all equal and what makes us all equal? Why should
one believe we are all equal? |

People usually only focus on 'booksmarts' even though both are needed! |

Have you ever heard of "book smart" and "street smart" I've encountered both, people are educated
in different ways and it doesn't mean that someone is smarter or dumber than another person. We all
have traits that make us smart or equal but in different ways. |

This is true as long as the uneducated realize that they do not know the answers to certain things
and as long as they can accept this fact there should be no problems at all.
Just like I am not a good basketball player, I admit it and would not tell Kobe Bryant how to pass a
basketball. |

Education is not always the criteria to judge people. Education no doubt is a very important thing
in today’s modern world but it is not always necessary that a degree holder can do every thing in
the best manner. In certain situations experience, natural intelligence matters more then just
education in terms of a degree. Also there are people who do not get the opportunity to get
education, this does not mean that they should not be treated with respect. As human we are all
equal. |

At the age of 0, the moment you begin to exist, we are perhaps all equal (I assume this to be the
case, because I do not have the evidence to suggest otherwise). However, immediately, the brain
sets about methodically generating new synapse and destroying others. This is education, the brain
learning and developing based on experience. By the age of 1, and certainly by, say, 7, the brains
of two identical children at birth can be radically different. Now the question is: Can one
pattern of synapses be better than another? The answer is obviously yes. One can be clearly
superior, noble, brave, honourable and intelligent compared to mean ignorance stupid, cowardly and
base. Education defines who we are.
Furthermore, education makes us think differently, and approach concepts in a different manner. By
reading Western philosophy recently (in preparation for my University course), I have been educated,
taught to see a different view on the world. This does not necessarily mean I always agree with what
I read, however, now I can compare my ideas to those of others. Surely I am therefore now better
than I was before, as my judgement has expanded and improved. |

I'll judge you if you don't appear to be educated; sorry, but that's your problem. |

People are not all equal. Some people are just plain idiots.
Completing an education shows more than mere possession of intelligence; it also indicates patience,
dedication, and diligence.
One of my best friends in high school flunked out of a rather crappy university. He would absolutely
not be able to hold his own against some of the better debaters on this site. And he's very smart...
He just didn't have those other qualities.
As humans, we are BORN equal. Everything after that is up for grabs. |

It depends on the context. Of course, if someone is a candidate for getting a medical transplant or
something, their level of education should be irrelevant.
But the same doesn't hold true for a debating website. Debating is fundamentally an intellectual
exercise. It requires both natural intelligence, learning and at least a bare minimum of skill in
the use of the written word. Coming to a debate without any of these things and expecting to be
welcomed with open arms is like a person in a wheelchair turning up for a pick-up football match and
asking to be allowed to play. |

While we all have equal rights, that doesn't make us all the same. Because education is so
important in the modern world, however, everyone will end up being judged on how much they know and
how they apply it. There is no excuse for ignorance and one should not expect to be let off the
hook because they choose not to be properly educated. |
