People Don't Know What Hypocrite Means.
People misuse this word and just label anyone they don't like with it. A hypocrite is someone who doesn't practice what they preach.

So many people do use that word and have no idea what it means. Usually the person using it is being a hypocrite themselves. I wish more people would actually know what they were talking about or the definitions of words before they speak. It not only makes them look stupid, it puts the other person they are talking to in a tough spot on whether to correct them or not.

Actually, I usually use it like you said: Someone who doesn't practice what they preach.

However, what do you think of this definition, sometimes I think it is more accurate: A hypocrite is someone who really doesn't believe what he says he believes. In other words, sometimes I believe such and such, but my actions don't correlate, but I know I am not living with integrity in this situation and not that I am a hypocrite, because I really believe what I say I believe, but I happen at times to fail to live by such and such a belief.

Both of those definitions are correct. I think the latter is the original use of the word but the former is how it is used more frequently nowadays.

I agree. Hypocrite is a very strong word to use, and it is often misused on this site.

I know the meaning of the term “hypocrite”. Whether others do or not I can’t really say. Also, if you’re referring to our debate within your other topic entitled “It Is Useless To Argue With Atheists”, I never actually labelled you as a “hypocrite”. I only claimed that the debate you created seemed based around hypocritical viewpoints when concerning the overall debating tactics of theists and atheists (mainly referring to those on this site).

As you seem to have made this debate with myself and Hizashi in mind would you care to enlighten us as to where we went wrong? As far as I can tell we both fully understand the word and have used it in context.

I know what hypocrite means. I've used it in the right context every time. Some may just label people with it, but I am quite confident in my ability to use language correctly.
