People Actually Used The Bible To Support Racism And Slavery...
I want to make sure people understand i say "USED TO" as in past tense, not anymore... Anyway, a lot of my friends keep telling me this. So as if right now i am going to do a little research, but basically state your opinions and support it with something...

It's not "used to", it's still going on. Many of those in the elite of Wall Street extreme right wing in the US are extreme in Christianity.

The unethical lending practices, mortgage and credit card excess of recent years are all intended to keep the working class in perpetual supportable debt, or essentially, legalized slavery. Such people make enough to pay the interest on the debt, but not the principal, and will never be able to get out of debt.

That's the goal and the intent of the extreme right, permanent debt and indenture, just like in the buybull. It's no different than when Christians rationalized "social darwinism" in the early 20th century to leave the poor starving to death, claiming "the rich are obviously more fit to live". Of course, such attitudes and banking practices in the early 20th century also happened before the Great Depression and played a large part in causing it.

You don't suppose that it's happening again, do you? Nahhhh.....

AMEN! The Bible has been referenced many ties to support INTOLERANCE, INEQUALITY, and PUNISHMENT for noncompliance.

OK, guys i just asked a question and it seems half of you are getting mad at me for it... It was simple and i wanted to see some mature answers -which i did- but also got a couple emotional ones... I am not racist i just want to point that out... Also reading online on those parts i would have to agree that it does support slavery..

Slavery was a fact in the old testiment....the Bible tells a slave owner how to treat his slave,, and it also tells a slave how he or she should act for things to go well for them.....Where is there a verse that says go out and get slave??? Hate blacks or anyone else for that matter. The Bible tells how to deal with the enemy, so they don't come back. The old Testiment can't even be compared to the new Testiment. All of those things you Bible complainers complain about was old testiment stuff.......Jesus fulfilled that stuff so it didn't need to happen anymore. None of that has anything to do with new Testiment Christians. But all of it was done for a purpose, do you have any idea what that purpose was?

They still do. There is no "used to" about it. Every redneck, racist piece of excrement in the world interprets the Bible to support their bigoted beliefs. The Bible can be interpreted to support almost anything if manipulated with a small degree of creativity.

I am so sick of the Bible touting extreme right. I can't say this loud enough or clearly enough: -

IT IS A BOOK! IT IS JUST A BOOK! IT WAS WRITTEN BY PEOPLE THOUSANDS OF YEARS AGO! THE VALUES THEN ARE DIFFERENT NOW! TECHNOLOGY THEN IS DIFFERENT NOW! PEOPLE THEN ARE DIFFERENT NOW! IT HAS NO RELEVANCE TODAY EXCEPT AS AN INTERESTING HISTORICAL RELIC!

If you look for the section of the bible that contains the text of the ten commandments, you will find that it implicitly endorses slavery. Among the commandments are things like "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's slave."

What do you mean used to? They still do. You have to remember that the KKK is a Christian, Bible-based group that firmly believes that blacks are inferior to whites because their interpretation of the Bible tells them so.

They most certainly did. In fact, the KKK is a Christian organization dedicated to the teaching that racism is a purely Biblical teaching. You still find them holding that belief today.
