Definitely true. I know at my school, where every student has a laptop, we hardly ever write on
paper - and so we are very reliant on spell-checkers. Often when the little red underline comes a
long you just click the first option, without even looking at what you did wrong. You don't learn
from your mistakes. |

I don't know if schools are failing in spelling but I have noticed that more people are not spelling
things correctly.
I find spelling mistakes annoying.
If I see a spelling mistake, I have to change to or underline. It's when my OCD comes through I
guess. |

It amazes me to hear young people talk about the ability to text message and use Spell Check and how
that makes Spelling unimportant. Here is a little poem which fits perfectly...
Spell Checker
Eye halve a spelling checker,
It came with my pea sea.
It plainly marks four my revue
Miss steaks eye kin knot sea.
Eye strike a key and type a word
And weight four it two say
Weather eye am wrong oar write
It shows me strait a weigh.
As soon as a mist ache is maid
It nose bee fore two long
And eye can put the error rite
Its rare lea ever wrong.
Eye have run this poem threw it,
I am shore your pleased two no,
Its letter perfect awl the weigh,
My checker tolled me sew.

I couldn't decide whether to go for or against on this one.
Yes, spelling does need to be improved, but so do a great number of academic skills.
By the way, innomen, why didn't you put this debate in 'education'? Why 'miscellaneous'? |

I think for the most part it comes from laziness, like for me I keep a spelling book beside me or a
dictionary,
and yes I still make mistakes.
But let's say you spell some things wrong in your post, as long as it is close
I'm not going to correct you, I understand your meaning, but still you will go on assuming that is
the correct spelling....what a shame what a shame. |

If you are using this site as proof,
i am against it, because i get so wound up in debates that i type very quickly and make mistakes and
hit submit before i have time to register that i have made a mistake |

I think handwriting comes before spelling. If you cant read the thing, then what good is spelling? |
