I agree therefore my father is an idiot HOWEVER..... Some people never see it coming and also
therefore only idiots get into debt |

Very true. People see all of this money in the form of credit cards, or refinancing on their house
and think... Oh free money! But the thing is they won't be able to pay it back and they are just
living in the moment. Retards. |

There is more to this issue as with many others but generally I agree with Cephus and Sudipa.
Consumer goods are too easy to have, institutions were too free and easy with giving away money and
there is a view in society that if I want it I can have it.
BUT THE BOTTOM LINE IS-
CHOICE and PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY |

What kind of debt are we talking? |
| |
|
| |

I don’t know whether the adjective “idiot” is apt or not. According to me the ignorant and the
irresponsible people get into debt. They usually want to live a life which is beyond their reach and
finally find themselves drowned into the ocean of debt. This should be controlled by them or they
would be demolished completely. Everyone should be very much thoughtful to how they would live their
life by saving something for their children. Why should one try to live the life that his earning
does not permit? This is the disease of showing of the society. To be compared with the other high
standard people is the irresistible temptation and only for this reason many people are getting into
debt day by day. If a huge amount will be needed for a medical cause in near future, what would the
man do? |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
|
I don't know that I'd use the word "idiot", but certainly it's mostly irresponsible people who get
into debt by trying to live beyond their means. It's the people making minimum wage who still have
to have that new car and the big screen TV with the new PS3 that are the ones that get into trouble
primarily.
It's one thing if you have unforeseen medical expenses or something like that, but if you're just
buying because you want something, I have no sympathy for you. |

No humans are perfect because they do not follow God's will without fail. And all problems stem from
not following God's will. Included in God's Word, which is his will, is instruction on finance.
Leaving from His will will lead to debt. All imperfects people all fools, so all people are fools.
If some people get into debt, then they are fools because they are under the category of humans, all
of which are foolish |

Everybody seems to be in debt nowadays. I think it is really stupid of people not to realise what
they are getting themselves into. There is plenty of information around warning you about the
dangers of debt.
We all did basic maths at least so how can you not realise what you can and cannot afford to pay
back. The credit companies make it more attractive and easy for us to get into debt but that doesn't
mean you have to.
If you want to buy something big and exciting or go on a nice holiday then SAVE for it. Don't get a
huge loan and then struggle to pay it back. What's the big rush?
Most of the things people get credit for are luxury items that aren't necessary. Like blowing their
store cards and maxing out credit cards on clothes and big tvs. Then they moan they can't afford to
pay it back.
Not only that but these idiots and their inability to fulfill their obligation to repay their debts
are also damaging responsible people's ability to get a mortgage (the only real need for debt except
perhaps a car).
The thing that really gets me is that in order to pay off their credit card people will get a loan!
That's just crazy. Taking out more debt to cover debt. Half the people spend it on something else
and then have double to pay. If you can't pay the first what makes you think you can pay two
debts?
Responsible and sensible people know that if they put a little money aside each pay and save
regularly then they should never need to worry about how to pay for that luxury item or holiday, or
an unexpected repair. And when they do have to take credit they know their limits and what they can
afford to pay back.
People just seem to dig themselves further and further into debt without seeking any sort of advice
or help and then expect you to sympathize their position. Do us a favour and know your limits! |

Gas, water, electricity, cable, and all the rest of the household services are provided first on a
monthly basis and then paid for secondly. So until you pay you are in debt, which makes you an idiot
I suppose. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
|
While I do agree that it is indeed unwise to spend beyond your means, there are some debts that can
be incurred responsibly and some that are not. It is foolish to assume that only idiots get into
debt and it foolish to think it can never happen to you. |
| |
|
| |
|

|
|
No smart people can get in debt too. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |

|
There is a reason. WE are ALL in debt. You, your family, friends all hold a chunk of the national
debt over your head. You are in debt you just think you're not. We need to get rid the federal
reserve bank in order to trully be out of debt. Ever dollar produced costs us twice as much soon
after it is created out of thin air. Money has no meaning. We apply meaning to it. |
| |
|
| |
|

I wouldn't say idiots, I would say people who don't think about the future very often. |
| |
|
| |
|

That is a completely false statement. When students go to university most of them rack up a small
debt due to living costs and payment for their courses. You are therefore saying that all students
are idiots. |

|

|

Sometimes you have to go in debt. How you pay it off is another story. |
| |
|
| |
|

Why how untrue!
Suppose you get cancer and owe doctors ton of money?!
That is not irresponsibility: It is just MISFORTUNE.
I very much disagree with this debate for that reason. |

I had to get a loan for my first house that meant I was in debt now I own about 120 houses that are
fully paid for and i collect rent from each month. Yeah what and idiot I was to get into debt, an
idiot all the way to the bank. |

This is not necessarily true. If it was, almost every American would be under that classification.
People get into debt by trying to handle to much at one time. Let's say you buy a house and are
doing well at your job and everything is OK. So, than you add a car to that and that is working too.
You fill out a couple credit card apps for emergencies and they come and you are keeping up. Then
all of the sudden, you get laid off. Then what? Do you know how many people this happens too. If not
getting laid off, they lose their job and even after getting another one, it is hard to play catch
up.
People want to live the best life and there is nothing wrong with that. You might as well live the
American dream, with the kids and money and everything to make everyone happy. There is no reason
why people shouldn't take advantage of it but the problem lies when losing work or not paying on the
bills you have. |

Most people that are rich go into debt because they think they don't have to worry because they
think they have an infinite supply of money. Then they spend it all. Wow a lot of theys in "there" |

There's good debt and bad debt. Bad debt would be high credit card balances with high interest
rates.
It's easy to say that idiots get into debt, but if you look at most of the highly successful
entrepreneurs of our society, you will find that they had lots of debt. |

Apparently you have never struggled in life or ran into a situation that you had no control over.
Lucky for you. I find it amazing how many people are so quick to judge. There are many reasons
people end up in debt and its not all because of people spending beyond there means on things like
big screen tvs and gaming consoles. Where I am living the average rent on a 1 bedroom apt is around
$1400/mnth. Then you look at the average cost of food and what wages are like. The average person
cannot afford that. Throw in a couple of kids and youve got a battle on your hands. Here I do not
have to worry about paying HUGE medical bills because we have a half decent health care system but
what about the people in the states who have hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills. Are
they "idiots"? Debt happens and I don't think its anything a person needs to be ashamed of. No one
is perfect. Life just has a way of getting in the way of the best laid plans. |

Many people are in debt because of medical bills. So do you think only idiots get sick? You're
right, though, that there's no good reason for this. People should not be preyed upon by insurance
companies and astronomical health care bills. |

Are you calling me an idiot?? |

I don't agree that everyone in debt is an idiot. How can you say that there is no good reason to be
in debt? We have been through a 2nd recession, the last one only a few years ago. The costs of
everything we do and purchase has gone up, yet income has stayed the same. The cost for health
care, those who actually work and pay for it that is, is rising each year. My monthly premium has
gone up over $50 in the last 3 years. To most people, that is a lot of money, especially if you own
a home, your homeowners is going up, the taxes are going up, the cost of repairs (wood, ect) has
gone up. Look at the fast food restaurants, they have all raised their prices. Gas as well.
Toilet paper, paper towels, milk, cheese... Everything is rising in price while pay raises are not
happening. County governments are going further in debt, cutting important resources.
It's amazing how not all people today are living in debt. Luckily, I am not one of those, but I see
how easy it could be. We live in a 'want want' society and with all the good knick knacks and
gadgets out there, on top of what we already HAVE to have to live... People are getting into debt
without thinking. Credit cards are being given to everyone with extreme interest rates. And some
people are just suckers for those.
Either way, it is very easy for people to get into debt and it's not because they are stupid. It is
just the way America is right now and people are going to be paying for this for along time. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
|
Are you calling me an idiot? Are you saying when I make a mistake, which is human nature, and end up
in debt, I'm an idiot? It's not the wisest to pay for something you know you don't have enough for,
but sometimes you find yourselves in those bad situations where you have to pay for something, yet
you don't have the money. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
|
Hahaha wrong! |
| |
|
| |
|

Obviously you grew up rich, and have never worked hard for money. Only someone like that would post
something like this. Notice how mostly everyone is disagreeing with you, maybe it's not the other
people who are idiots... Maybe it's you. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
|
That's extremely untrue. I guess that now your saying that people who can't afford to go to collage
are idiots. Your saying that just because someone can't come up with the money to get a roof over
their head that they are an idiot. Or that someone can't afford kimo therapy for their cancer they
are all idiots. Then you got some pretty messed up thoughts because all of that takes money and some
people don't have that money. So now I'm gonna guess that you are suggesting that all these people
just give up hope and Don't take out a loan so that they can Not go to collage, or not get a house
to live in or not LIVE because they cant afford to. Is that fair. Is it really fair to put innocent
helpless people in such a harsh category? You tell me. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
|
I completely disagree with this. Students who go to university - are they idiots for wanting to get
a career? - no. But going to university, lots of young people get into debt because it's so
expensive. People buying houses have mortgages, and that is a kind of debt, but it's not really one
so much. Some people get into debt because they overspend and don't really think what they are
doing. Maybe this is stupid, but people learn from their mistakes don't they? That's the whole point
of being a human being. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
|
I beg to differ but I have always found generalizations repulsive. I agree that your personal
finances are your responsibility but there are circumstantial conditions that can have effects of
varying magnitudes on how badly you fall into debt. A lot of people are faced by unfortunate
personal and financial conditions that they need some time to tackle. If the bread winner of the
family suffers from a fatal accident or dies the family will need some time to recover from the loss
and then think how to manage their expenses from there onwards and the debt accumulated for the
duration will not exist because they were careless but because they had to face an unfortunate
calamity.
Some people are always saving for 'bad times' and these are the people who manage to avoid the
disturbing blows of unpredictable life conditions. But the percentage of these proactive people is
very less when compared to that of those who want to save but can not afford to save. We also have
to bear in mind the high inflation rates, low wage rates and the plethora of expenses. Most of the
people are so busy juggling their daily routine finances, bills and educational costs of their
children that they can not afford to save for something they are not too sure will happen. Then
there are debt expenses that stretch over several years for examples car loans and mortgages etc.
However, if you say that only idiots get into debt due to careless overspending that is justified. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
|
I do not believe that all people who are in debt are idiots. If we really stop to think, is there
really any one person in the world who is not in debt at one time or another in life? To say that
all people who are in debt are idiots is to say that every single person in the world is an idiot.
Everyone has debt. Some people have more debt than others and some people are in debt longer than
others. Simply, because one receives a bill in the mail puts them into debt. Therefore, not all
people in debt are idiots. I believe that people who mismanage their money are idiots. Those who do
not pay their debts are idiots. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
|
I don't think it's fair to label all people who get into debt 'idiots'. Yes some people do get into
debt knowingly because they want things like other people have and they know they can't afford them.
This could be the fault of a society and institutions who want too many material things and make it
too easy to borrow large amounts way beyond what people can pay back.
Yes people have to take full responsibility for their finances but sometimes events take a turn for
the worse and people can't cope and to be called an idiot isn't fair.
Yes some people are idiots in the way they overspend but as many aren't an find themselves in life
changing circumstances that aren't their fault.
It's easy to make statements when we've never been in distressing circumstances and it must be
terrible to say loose ones home through unemployment when you've worked all your life to try and
keep out of debt.
No I can't agree with this one, it's too narrow a view. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
|
No - this isn't true.
Many people get into debt through unfortunate personal circumstances.
It's true that many people do overspend and get out of control with credit and mortgages etc but
give some thought to those who fall on hard times .
The death of a partner who is the main wage earner can hit families hard.
Unforeseen unemployment, accidents, illness can all lead to a drastic change in circumstances which
leave people unable to cope and they don't deserve the label 'idiot'.
Even when insurances have been taken out debt due to unemployment can be a nightmare.
Getting into debt has many more reasons than merely consciously overspending and not everyone's
circumstances are the same. Generalisations are unfair. |
