Corporations may have an immense impact and influence on the government, but they will never be the
government itself. Just remember, we, the voting populace, are responsible for anything that
happens, we put our representatives in power and if we allow them to cozy up to mega-corporations
without putting a stop to it, that's our fault too. |

No. As the people have the power to contain the government the government is instilled with the
power to prevent corporations from taking over. Standard Oil was split to prevent monopolization in
1911. I'm not sure if Microsoft was split in the 1980's but they went to court on similar
charges.
90% of the laws voted on by congress are written by lobbyists working for corporations. I can't
imagine that number getting much higher. |

We've gone a long way towards this already. Corporations already exert a huge influence over
governments because of the financial contributions they give to politicians. Trade agreements are
being used to limit the power national governments have over corporations. For example, under the
NAFTA agreement companies can sue governments if the government passes a law that affects the
corporation's profits. So if a company emitted a pollutant into the atmosphere and the government
banned it, the company could sue the government to recover the costs.
The American government has pushed for these laws to be extended on a global basis, so far without
success. They will probably succeed eventually, though, so governments will then be highly
constrained in what they do to oppose corporate power. Ultimately, though, a government is sovereign
and can impose whatever laws it wants, even if that means withdrawing from the trade agreements.
It's only in the long run, when technology develops, material scarcity is abolished and humankind
moves into space that we will see the true reign of corporations. In space they will be free from
the control of terrestrial governments. So, yes, one day corporate rule will be almost absolute, but
in space, not on Earth. |

The Earth will never be run by anything or anybody but Herself. Corporations know nothing about the
Earth and what makes Her run. |
