I think this is true. Just think of all the great super powerful nations that existed in our ancient
world. Egypt, Persia, Greece, Rome, and so many other nations truly thought that they were the
chosen people and looked down upon of those countries around them. Its more evident from the ancient
world because all the strategic moves, and actions those nations executed was conveniently summed up
in a few pages in our history textbooks. Also the fact that Polytheism was what made up their
religion may have factored in their greed and "Psychotic" behavior. A great example of this is how
the Roman's completely dominated the world, and referred to the Germanic people as barbaric scum.
And when the Roman nation ceased to conquer the land around it, and began to crumbled the barbarians
took over, and the time period was recorded as the dark ages, as if the unloosen ones prevailed,
dark symbolizing evil. This is what has happened over and over with all the powerful nations of
their time. And speaking more moderately its the United states' turn to crumble, after all the bad
it has caused. |

I use the word psychotic in an attempt to liken the actions of a nation to that of an individual.
Can you imagine how a person would look if they behaved as nations do? They would be violently
paranoid, radical personality and mood changes, compulsive lying, aggressive behavior, willful
intimidation, anger management issues, self destructive urges, trust issues, delusions of grandeur,
and finally general misogyny I think that most nations throughout history would have qualified for
most of those descriptions at one time or another . |

Why have you based this debate on psychosis?
I don't think leaders of countries invade their neighbors, because they think they're not the chosen
ones.
There could be lots of different reasons. |

There's a grain of truth to your post but I have trouble with the term "psychotic" describing it.
Just like absolute power corrupts absolutely, a nation which finds itself the strongest among it's
peers does often find itself exerting that power in some sort of superiority complex over the
neighbors. That's not psychotic, it's politics. And their superior powers do not last long once
the neighbors get together to tear them down or they corrupt and fragment from within.
The US too will have it's demise (if not already in progress).
And actually I agree with joe9 that charismatic people of power at the center of these nations are
major factors in how their power gets used. Just look what happened with 8 years of Bush. |
