Most Debates Concerning "Separation Of Church And State" Show A Lack Of Acquaintance With Organic Utterances Of The Founding Fathers.
If United States Citizens would read the Preamble to the Constitution and the Congressional Records of the time when the First Amendment was written, they would realize that our government has allowed the Courts to steal our God-given (not man-given) rights. At 232 years old, the U.S.A. Has been the freest, the best, and the longest-lived republic in the history of the world.

Amen.

And amen.
Great topic, and well-articulated.
Good job!

I believe that the Founding Fathers were Deist Freemasons who payed lip service to Christianity, the dominant religion of the day, much like most politicians do today. Privately they worshipped the Star of Solomon.

I also believe that freedom of religion really means freedom from religion, as most European settlers in early America were escaping religious persecution in the Old World.

Like Grenache said, your debate’s description seems to support two separate sides of the same issue. So I must disagree due to the fact that I'm unsure what you're really trying to claim.

Amendments represent the updates and corrections legally ratified which change both the Preamble and the Constitution. Here is the 1st Amendment: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." There is your separate of church and state, it wouldn't matter whether the Preamble or the original Constitution said otherwise. If you don't like it then pass a new Amendment overriding the 1st Amendment.

Furthermore, how can you fairly legislate Christianity when sizeable portions of the current population are Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim, and many others? The ship sailed a long time ago on making this a theocracy... Unless you plan some horrible oppression or atrocity of those other religions groups when you repeal the 1st Amendment?

Although Turtledove, I'll also say your title sounded anti-separation of church and state but your subtext praises the freedom of this country. If I misunderstood your intent then I apologize. My own intent was simply to fiercely defend our rights to our freedoms.

"God-given (not man-given) rights"
Really? You show me some evidence that a all powerful being has taken any interest in your life and then we will talk. What you are suffering from is human egotism. Where are the animals god given rights? Humans only have "rights" because they are in power over everything else. Where are the American soldiers "rights" when they get captured by the terrorists?
