Christian. The word is generally defined by a religion which claims to follow the teachings of
Christ. There are many of so-called religions.
It is silly to debate which is or isn't Christian by these definitions. Mormons are not Catholics
are not Baptists are not Pentecostals are not Jehovah's Witnesses are not Methodists are not
Lutherans etc.
The author of this topic claims to be a "first christian" and "nows" the truth. This is not enough
for me to know the author is a follower of Christ.
The only way I can know that a person is a follower of Christ is if the person knows Christ is their
saviour. A person has either accepted the FACT they are saved or they haven't.
If a Mormon or a Catholic or a (you get the point), has accepted the FACT Jesus is their SAVIOUR
(this would mean they are saved), they are a Christian.
Not to be confused with kinda sorta saved, probably saved, 99% sure saved, find out in the end
saved, after purgatory saved, if I help an old lady across the street I'll most likely be saved, I'm
not as bad as some people so I reckon I'm saved, I'm opposed to gay marriage so odds are I'm saved,
and my personal favorite... I belong to a religion which teaches me I will be saved if I do what the
religion tells me saved.

OUCH!
After counseling doubting/misunderstood cult members for many years, please take it from me - there
are many many sects/cults who claim to be Christian, but who, alas, through their secretive,
exclusivist and divisive actions display some rather non-christian characteristics.
These cults nearly always misrepresent the alleged divine nature of Jesus Christ and present a
'twisted' testimony of self-evident Biblical and Secular truths. Some, like the Latter Day Saints
and the Jehovah's Witnesses, even deliberately corrupt cherry-picked bible texts so that they
conform to preconceived doctrine. A good [bad] example of this is the one Faiza alludes to
concerning the substance of God incarnate.
As with any cult/sect, just see how far you get if you dare dissent or disagree with even the
smallest aspect of any of their alleged revealed 'truths'. Some ex-members commit suicide following
exclusion or excommunication from their former 'bros and sisters'.
These cults (not that they wish to know) also interestingly display severe mental health
aberrations; over 25% of cult members will undergo some form of paranoid schizophrenia as a direct
result of unhealthy sectarian doctrine and dogma or as a result of their 'treatment' by elders or
others in powerful positions in the sect.
I sincerely hope that intellectually bankrupt contributors like some we've read recently [Apr 20,
05:54] do not enter these otherwise healthy debates.
And just for the record, no, I'm not a Christian - so I've no axe to grind. |

According to Christian, Jesus Christ was the “truly God and truly man in whom the divine and human
natures are perfectly and inseparably united”. He is the only Son of the Father, born of the
Virgin Mary by the power of Holy Spirit. Whereas Mormons believe that Jesus is the Son of a God in
most literal sense and eldest brother of all mortal. |

Well, if your definition of Christianity is a belief in the Nicaean Creed's definition of the
Trinity, then Mormons aren't Christians, but seriously, the Nicaean Creed was written by a bunch of
mortals who had to compromise with each other to come up with a definition of official beliefs, so I
don't think that should be the basis for what's Christian and what's not. Mormons do believe in
Christ and that He is the Savior and that He atoned for the sins of all mankind. That's enough for
me to say Mormons are Christians. |

Uh DUH we're christians. If you were to do any intelligible research, you would have gone to our
website; www.lds.org and you would have found that one of our main beliefs is that Jesus Christ is
our Lord and Savior and that he died for our sins (he is not God, God is another separate being.) |

We believe in Christ and we believe him to be the savior of the world and that he died for our sins.
Also the churches main focus is Jesus Christ. Followers of Christ are known as Christians, so,
technically, we are Christians. |

First of all, the religion isn't Mormonism, or even Mormon. The name of their church is "The Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints". If you take careful note and actually read that, you'll
notice that their church's name is after their god, which is, JESUS CHRIST. Their doctrine revolves
around the atonement of Christ and his gospel. The word Christian means, literally, "of Christ."
Anyone who proclaims his gospel, believes in, and truly serves Him, is "of Christ". Therefore, they
are Christian.
And as for your insight on their doctrine of Christ's birth, it's totally erroneous. But even if it
weren't, that wouldn't disqualify them. Just because their doctrine doesn't match up to yours
doesn't mean their not Christian. Who the heck are you, anyway? Only Christ reserves the right to
say who is of Him, and who is isn't. You are just like the Pharises of his day. |
