More Money Is Needed For Space Exploration
In the last hundred years, we have discovered numerous things which could cause the extinction of the human race: Meteors, comets, asteroids, supervolcanoes, etc. Our best hope for long-term survival is to get a population off this rock and living elsewhere (Mars, habitats,) to carry on the species after Earth bites the big one.

It would be much easier to develop the technologies required to destroy or divert an incoming asteroid than to develop those required to relocate a significant portion of the Earth's population elsewhere.

It's certainly disturbing to think about our place in the universe sometimes, and how fragile it is, unless you have the comforting illusion of a magical being which arranges and superintends everything and keeps it all running smoothly.

Regardless of how impractical relocating our population might be, we must keep advancing our knowledge, so I agree with the proposition in general. Space research should be focused on advancing real knowledge, however, not doing stupid PR stunts, which has always been a temptation for the politicos who ultimately control NASA.

We spend billions upon billions on the Iraq war, that may be better used for space exploration or help for other countries. I think in a few hundred years we will be wishing we invested more.

There would be a natural progression of science anyway if you are looking at a few hundred years in the future. The Iraq War would only be a faint memory in that time with little effect to new innovations in science and space exploration.

Yes we need to expand if we put more money into space travel then helping people hopefully the population will drop by 90% and make life on earth more sustainable and space travel more useless:)

I can't see the need to spend billions to explore the outer space while people are dying of hunger every minute right here on earth.

Lack of water. Unbearable temperature fluctuations. Fat chance. And if Earth did bite the big one, it could wreck havoc with the other nearby planets. We have been watching too many star war movies.

Mankind is too wimpy. Cannot even stand a shower that is a degree or two off the standard, nice warm temperature.
