Minor Religions Should Be Taught In Schools Or No Religious Education At All
You can't just teach kids about the major religious. My mate is a pagan and people bully her because they think she worships the devil. I was looking into becoming a Laveyan satanist and my mum was so against it thinking i would be worshiping the devil, become evil and cast spells everywhere. Its likely that you're going to come across someone who believes in a minor religion and you will get the wrong idea. (e.g. My mum)

How about just "no religious education at all".

OK, I'll bite and say "yes" and since it's utterly impossible to teach about all the little religions (there are thousands of Christian denominations alone and they take their differences seriously) then that means NO religion education should be taught in public school (other than as part of history lessons since they have been a big part of all of recorded history).

Religion isn't taught at all. We are told what it is, but not its history, or different sects. Religion isn't in schools, and shouldn't be in schools.

It's actually comical and sad. There are some who can teach history and social studies without bias but few that do. We are biased creatures, often due to our concerns that people see things the right way (like we do).

It would be great if things could be taught from all perspectives and simple knowledge was the ultimate goal. Fact is, history is biased.

So we come to religion. It is literally insane to exclude religion from history and social studies. History without religion is false history. But how to teach it? Don't ask me. I have no idea how it could be done (I could do it but I would be denounced by most religions and the impact on students would range from very good to very bad). I would be speaking the exact same words while students would be hearing completely different messages.

At the least, people should learn that religion is not taught, that it's impact on society has been monumental, and it would be wise to study the major religions which have had so much impact.

Thus, minor religions need not apply at this time. If western culture can't come to grips with the history of Roman Catholicism and it's effects on that culture, then the thought of teaching about any other religion would be insane.

In the end, people should be taught that they are religious illiterates due to the fact that religions cannot be taught during their education. It would be nice if this concept could be taken into consideration when the illiterate take part in religious discussion.

Seriously, how much time does the average person study any religion? Even their own?

I’ve mildly studied Christianity and its close relatives for the past couple of years, even though I’m not a Christian. People who are religiously illiterate are necessarily victims. Though I do agree that religion has had major impacts on history and should be, at the very least, mentioned where mandatory, I can’t say I agree with having religion “taught” in public schools (in the sense that excessive amounts of time are spent on the subject). Having a large amount of time spent on a religious event in history would most likely give rise to teachers adding even more biasness to the situations by “force feeding” religious ideas into the students. I agree that history is inevitably taught in a bias point of view by any teacher, due to the fact that we’re all human. But at least a teacher is less likely to take the average historic occurrence personally contrary to what one may do if their religion is the prime subject. Overall, most people who are religiously illiterate have the resources to educate themselves on whatever religious topic they see fit to learn about. It’s not like the schools are at fault for people not knowing a lot about religion. Albeit, I, personally, wouldn’t care if slightly more detail was given when speaking about major religious events in history. But then again, we’d have the problem of where to draw the line and also the intervention of biasness once more.

The point is not precise: It's not clear what you mean by 'taught'. No religion should be promoted. But it would be impossible to teach quite a few subjects, for example history and the development of law, without mentioning the relevance of major religions. Irrelevant religions like Scientology and your witches brew could be briefly mentioned for comic relief and pop value.

I don't think the law should allow (schools) teachings of religion. Many people aren't sure if they believe in God, or any other religions. Even those, who know there religious perspective shouldn't be put in a place where he or she would have to be taught things he or she doesn't even believe (in).

I think the law is that NO religion is allowed to be taught in public school systems. That appears to work out for everyone. This way, no religion is left out or given more treatment than another.
