Middle And High School Should Start At 9:00
Middle and High School students are or have just recently gone through changes in their bodies and have different metabolisms. Their bodies want them to stay up late and wake up later in the day. So when school starts at 8:00 or 8:30 they are groggy and cannot fully concentrate on class. If school started at 9:00 and ended at 4:00 students would be more alert and more attentive. The American testing level would most likely go up as a reaction to the new school time frame.

Its a proven fact that the average teenager's brain doesn't start fully functioning until between 8:30 and 9:00. (PM in my case)

On average I get about 3.5-4 hours of sleep a night. I have a sleeping disorder that severely tampers with my ability to perform well in school. I have to suffer each morning to get up and concentrate. I rather put that extra effort in doing my work rather listening to what I have to do. Starting at 9:00 would be best for nearly all.

 If you really have a sleep disorder...go to emofree.com and downloead their FREE manual and search for sleep disorders....their techniques really work and may be of alot of help...........or learn to meditate.

I agree!
I have such issues getting out of bed at 7am!
And I really can't get to sleep until 10:30pm at the earliest.
If only they would introduce a later time of 9am...

Where I live there is a high school that starts 9 and finish at 5 and there test scores are of the roof, and in recent studies more sleep for young teens can and will help their attention spam and their brain development so id say yes yes yes start school at 9 o'clock.

It's true because middle schoolers and high schoolers need the sleep and except for sixth graders most kids at elementary school are already up that early.

If schools were concerned about the education of their students, they would know that this is the only logical decision. Kids are still asleep at 8:00 and need time to fully wake up and adjust for the day. Plus, this could allow for the old "sit-down breakfast" again, allowing for closer families which is something we all need.

You need to state a compelling reason why they cannot go to sleep earlier. Is school of a low enough priority so that staying awake late is more important?

It is a good opportunity to make responsible decisions as to the time one should go to bed. Staying up late because you want to, is infantile, and irresponsible.

Stop complaining and go to bed!

 Its not that someone of that age wants to. It's that their bodies metabolism is driving the student to stay up later. The student may "go to bed" earlier but the said student would probably just stare at the ceiling or read until their metabolism lets them go to sleep.
