2+2 will still be 4! That's what someone misses talkin' bout maths. In our society, we know that
2+2=4but if , for example, in another world someone says that 2+2=5, in fact that is still 4! It's
just another way to indicate the result of an equation. We say "4" because our math is based on a
decimal numeration system, but no one is saying that our system is universally right. I knew about
an ancient population which based its numeration system on the number of the islands of its land.
So, if they had for example 7 islands, they would count till 7 and then start again with 10 11...
It's like the difference by the decimal and the binary system. In the decimal system we say "2", and
in the binar we say"10", but "2"is true an exists the same! |

Without maths there would be no science, and without science there would be no theories. |

I agree, for all practical purposes math is what it is. A number is a number. 2+2 is 4. The only
difference is when you get close to a Black Hole in which case when you pass that event horizon all
bets are off. |

Math is the only truth. It is the language of the universe. |

Truth is relative. Its true to itself false to others. To you 2+2=4 to another races math system
which lets assume has the same numbers but with different meanings. 2+2=5. Technically neither can
be proved false your not using their own system. But using the others system it seems false. Math is
man made. Its true to man. False to everything else. |

As a discipline math is discreet and therefore has a clearly defined limits which is controlled by
the = sign. However the utilization or purpose of math is to analyze and quantify natural
phenomenon. The problem is nothing equals anything in the natural world. Simply put two apples plus
two apples equals four apples except that no apple is identical to any other apple. Truthfully math
is a man made tool for simplifying the natural world into a context that we can understand. A very
useful tool, one that it is my job to use every day, however not a separate absolute truth except
perhaps theoretically or separate from any practical application. |

Depends on the value of absolute truth. It is absolutely true to say I am producing this post. In
this sense, absolute truth abounds.
Math, along with our persons, is a great depiction of the temporal universal contradiction.
Yes 2+2=4. Finite. The key to a circle is pi. So far, this is an infinite number which is widely
used from elementary school students to the top of the astrophysics chain.
Of course it makes sense. A circle (once made) doesn't have a beginning or end. A sphere is all one
side but to our perception has opposite sides.
Thus, once again, the debate between finite and infinite blasts beyond theology and philisophy into
the mathematical based sciences.
Pertaining to this universe, mathematics is relatively very close to finite. I'm speaking of it's
ability to add decimal places and powers to an infinite number.
If we are speaking of absolute truth beyond the temporal, so far, math has not been able to make an
infinite number finite. Thus, leaving the debate open on this subject.
Lol....I love it. |
