Making People Read Bible Is Kind Of Brainwash.
To make more people know about Jesus, Bible has been translated into different languages each year. Some NGO or religist group go to developing countries and give them aid, and in exchange asking them to study bible, don't you think its kind of brainwash?

If you forced someone to read the Bible, you would still have a very difficult time brainwashing them. Children taught the Bible don't need to be brain washed, they're a fairly clean slate. The Bible is supposed to do some brainwashing " be ye renewed , by the renewing of you mind" Believe it or not some people NEED brainwashing and healing from things that happened in their life.

Jahwobble is right. A lot of the kids on here have clearly been brainwashed. A 13 year old who says I am going to hell for being a non believer is testament to that. If it isn't brainwashing then why would Christian families have Christian kids, Muslim families have Muslim kids. What would be the need for faith, brainwashing is scaring kids into thinking if they do wrong they will spend an eternity in hell.

Allowing people to read the Bible is fine, teaching morals through Christ is fine (no more so than a multitude of none religious stories) but scaring kids with hell if they question anything is brainwashing. So many fall into this category and it is sickening.

Forcing religion on children is definitely brainwashing. You only have to read a lot of the posts from young people on this site to realise that.

The Bible is on my book shelf next to the Brothers Grimm Book of Fairy Tales. They are one in the same. I find the stories rather scary , in fact too scary to be considered bedtimes stories.

I do not believe religion should be forced on anyone.

I agree. It's utterly wrong to take advantage of people in such desperate circumstances. There have been cases of UN troops demanding sex from girls in Africa in return for food. While not quite as bad as that, I think forcing people to study the texts or tenets of your particular brand of superstition just to stave off starvation is despicable and immoral.

The Christians who do this should be ashamed of themselves.

I think making people read the Bible or any other religious book or text can be form of brainwashing.
Making people do anything can be a form of it too.
There's nothing wrong with asking someone to read it or suggesting that they do but not making them.
I don't know why we would need to read the Quran first to clarify the Bible though as some suggest. The Bible is taken by believers to be the word of God and they are entitled to their own beliefs and religion.
Many people get through life very well without ever having read the Bible . Reading the Bible doesn't make anyone a better person are a more moral and caring one either.
Any religious texts could be used and are often used to brain wash and control people and like any other books or works of literature they should be read freely and without any pressure.
It's wrong to do this to people who are vulnerable in any circumstances.

I believe that making people read Bible is brainwash as no one can give the authenticity of the book. It has many versions and Christian scholars modified the book according to their perspective. We should read Holy Quran which is the complete code of life. Bible also gives the message and authenticity of Holy Quran. The Quran has never been modified by anyone and it can’t be as God Himself has taken the responsibly of its protection. So we should read Holy Quran and then we will come to know what new things people have added in Bible.

The Bible was written much earlier than the Quran and those who wrote it could also we said to be acting directly on Gods word. Many people do believe it is authentic word of God.

Yes, I agree 100% with this that the Bible is a kind of brainwashing for the following reasons:

1. There are now different versions of the Bible and there is no one to confirm which version is the actual one.

2. Religious groups have modified the Bible for their benefit so there is no authenticity left in the Bible.

3. By making these modifications, NGO's or religious groups are now misguiding people and this is not something which I would class as ethical.

No. How can it be since the definition of brainwashing is FORCED indoctrination through systematic means? Giving someone the Bible, which would teach them to look out for the interests of others, and ASKING them to read it is NOT brainwashing. Now if they were forcing them to read it and punishing them in some way if they did not, then we have an argument for brainwashing attempts.

The question clearly states 'making' ie forcing, so the question is not about choosing to read the bible but people like me that were forced to at an early age.

I don’t think that making people to read Bible is a kind of brainwash. No one puts the gun to the head says to read Bible. People are more liberal these days and they can choose their kind of things without any hesitation. One who feels to read Bible and would get much more comfortable view in it should surely read it. There is no such brainwash or no such bothering. And what is much more vision able that the Bible reading is increasing day by day and the religious people are going to different countries to promote the holy book. There are many NGOs and religious people who are visiting different developing countries, giving them aid and in lieu of that they are enhancing the habit of Bible reading. But they are not doing it forcefully. So it’s not right to make such a comment.

We have been forced to read books from the 1st grade and on. We are all born of free will, and whatever we decide to take from what we read is a product of how we are brought up, combined with the environment we live in, and then molded by our experiences. I don't see anything wrong with Christians trying to help other people have a better life. We "Christians" don't try to brainwash people with the Bible. The majority of Christian influence in less fortunate countries is incredible. If giving money to people to help them build their own businesses, and if helping to rebuild communities that have been demolished by their government, and if helping women and children gain an identity is brainwashing, and so on, then so be it. True Christians help others in need. The real brainwashing is going on in the media and entertainment industry right here in our own backyard. But we sit around and continue to let our children be corrupted by the trash that is in every corner of our country. Scary future.

I don’t agree that a person can be brainwashed merely by reading a piece of writing. Bible, Quran or any other piece of writing religious or otherwise poses the ideas and teachings of its writer. As long as the readers are just being asked to read a certain book and it is not being imposed on them or being forcefully fed to them in a particular perspective a term as strong as brain wash does not quiet fit.

Everyone has a right to their own judgment and people who can read can very well form their own opinions about what they are reading. It is just like a teacher suggesting a good inspirational piece of writing to a student.

Any doctrine, religious, political or artistic has an element of strongly influencing its followers. However, that does not really count as brainwashing. Surely the Bible and/or Christianity in general is a positive force in the world, like any other world faith?

What damage does the Bible actually do? It does teach people to be good to each other, not to murder, or steal or commit adultery. It is also gives you the idea of giving a fulfilling life.

Is there a chance that human beings could use the Bible as a way of getting others to do what they want. Well - yes, but that could be said of any doctrine.

Why do so many people find a happy home with Christianity and the bible, if it does not fill something that they need. I've heard people call Christians sheep, but Jesus was the lamb of God, and if He is the shepherd, we do not blindly follow, we are guided by His love.

In Kabbalah, the christian bible is considered to be a code book. This idea also comes up in the Judaism where Torah Codes are thought to exist in the patterns of the tracts of the Torah. This is most famously represented through Michael Drosnin's book 'The Bible Code'.

I'm not a christian, I have no interest in the Bible, but I find the stories inspiring and educating. Perhaps its when our fellow human beings get involved that something goes wrong. When humans misguide others for gain or profit, then that is a kind of brainwashing, but bible itself does not do this, it is a morally reasonable book. One is not asked to do anything but submit to the will of a powerful being. As long as that being doesn't casually harm its subjects, why would we reject it?

Whether NGO's and others 'misguide' people with Christianity, I don't know. It seems to feed a certain human need for conspiracy.

The Koran is not a more authentic book in any way, Cancer's assertion that it is, is just a singular perspective on their own religious position. I don't believe that any book should be used to run your life, life needs to be rich pageant, a mosaic of wonder, take your influences from a thousand sources, rather than one book.

I believe that reading bible does not mean brain washing of people.Infact reading any book is always good for the reader so that he/she can extract all the good logical points out of it and try to think on them and also think on all the weaknesses and wrong points in that according to one's own perception. If a person will not read Bible then how will he come to know all the errors it contain? Moreover its is a religious book so it stops a person from doing wrong deeds. So brain washing is not possible if we read it in depth and try to relate it with what Quran says. When a human brain understands that many things written in it are illogical and make no sense then how can such statements brain wash a sound mind. But the only suggestion before reading Bible is to read Holy Quran in depth so that all the errors in Bible can be more visible and clear to a person to avoid any type of confusion.

No, it's not a kind of brainwash at all. In fact, the Bible contains too many errors and contradictions in it that no one with a little intellect would be brainwashed just by reading the Bible. So, it's not a true statement. For example, there are some really strange things which people usually can't digest. I'll give you the following strange phrases which appeared in Bible:

(a) "For God is NOT the author of confusion . ." I CORINTHIANS 14:33" contradicted by (b) " . . I make peace, and CREATE EVIL . . . ISAIAH 45:7" (c) But the spirit of the Lord departed from Saul and AN EVIL SPIRIT from the Lord troubled him. I SAMUEL 16:14

Further Contradictions are:

(a) GOD AS AN OMNIPOTENT BEING: "And Jesus saith . For with God ALL THINGS are possible MARK 10:27, also MATTHEW 19:26 contradicted by "And the Lord was with Judah, and he drove out the inhabitants of the mountain, but COULD NOT drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had Chariots OF IRON." JUDGES 1:19 (b) GOD'S ANGER ABIDETH FOR A MINUTE: For his (God's) anger endure but a MOMENT." PSALMS 30:5 . Contradicted by " And the lord's anger was kindled against Israel and he made them (the Jews) wander in the wilderness FORTY YEARS..." NUMBERS 32:13

There is no soundness of reports regarding Jesus' consult of the following as well:

Two separate lists of the ancestors of Jesus ; a. Matthew 1:1-16 and b. Luke 3:23-38. In these two lists consisting of sixty-six names, there is only one name which is common to both and that is of Joseph the carpenter, and he should never have been mentioned since he was never responsible for the conception of Jesus.

Some other unsound reports which make us confused are:
(a) The "Lord" tempted David . . . 2 SAMUEL 24:1 or "Satan provoked David . . . I CHRONICLES 21:1 (b) 700 or 7000? "Horsemen" or "Footmen" . . . ? 2 Samuel 10:18 vs 1 CHRONICLES 19: 18 (c) Solomon had 2000 baths or 3000 baths? 1 KINGS 7-26 vs 2 CHRONICLES 4:5 (d)

So, these points justify what I said. I didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings or denigrate the reputation of the Bible.
