Lucifer Isn't Such A Bad Guy
I thought I would start this debate to challenge some beliefs and see if I am not alone in this opinion. First off, I am by no means a Satanist, and I am in fact athiest, but the topic of Good and Evil is of great interest to me. Having done research of my own and after reading texts like Paradise Lost, it seems to me that idea of Lucifer is greatly misunderstood. I'm not talking about "The Devil", but the fallen angel Lucifer, who is the only one in history to famously defy the Christian dogma.

Lucifer, while he may be evil, is also nessacary. Otherwise, he wouldn't exist (unless, of course, he was of equal power to God).
If you read the bible, him and god have an almost cordial relationship (read Job. They are like two friends making a wager. Or the new testament. Haven't you ever said "i will never..." and one of your friends teases and tests you?).

 Indeed you are correct.

It certainly brings up a lot of questions about why Christians are so opposed against Lucifer if their own God is quite happy to do business with him.

Lucifer in all fairness is a good guy.
And I got called a Satanist for about three years for telling people not to judge him.
I don't think he really cares about the people inn Hell and just let's them live their own lives.

I think lucifer is more like the moral majority preacher you don't like on TV, only alot smarter. I see lucifer as being consumed with his mission to save heaven from the sinners and being a martyr for his self sacrifice.

I think lucifer is consumed with the cause.

Lucifer has been correct about everything. But lucifer simply doesn't get that little thing called love. I think lucifer hates the world with a passion. It is a weakness and it is a hoax.

Sometimes I wish I was a real bad dude that could see love as a weakness and a hoax. But I'm a puss.

In the story of genesis god told Adam and eve not to eat from the tree of knowledge . For if they did they would surely die. A scare tactic to keep them ignorant from the truth but Lucifer (which means light bearer highest angel sat on the right hand side of god also known as the bright and morning star same as Jesus he was called bright and morning star and went up to sit on the right hand side of god hmmmmm) Satan told her that she would not die if she eat from the tree of knowledge so she did and it says in genesis after she eat rom the tree of knowledge genesis 3 ; 22 and the LORD GOD said behold the man is become as one of us to know good and evil; and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life and eat and live for ever.
Check this statement out
1. Adam and eve became like god knowing good and evil
so them fol owing Satan they became as god. This is a rehash of a much older story from the Sumerian writings where their are two gods one called enqi the serpent who was responsible for the creation of man and his friend and the other enlil his self righteous brother who had no love for enqis creation but just as slaves made to order. Check out the sumerian writings these gods in modern language would be referred to as extraterrestrials

Here's an alternative story:

Power corrupts therefore absolute power corrupts absolutely.
God slowly becomes corrupted due to limitless power (He's God right?)
Lucifer doesn't like how his boss is changing and tries (in his own special way) to "set things right" but as we know 'the road to Hell is paved with good intentions'.
God sends Lucifer down to Hell and seals the place off from Earth and Heaven effectively making Hell autonomous.
Lucifer, annoyed at this but sealed away from God (who now has no power over him or the domain of Hell) decides to go his own way and make Hell a 'slightly more rough Heaven' where he judges people himself and looks after those who were sent down mistakenly (God is corrupted remember?) but doing all the stereotypical 'Burn in Hell' tortures to those really deserving.

Of course that's just a wild guess but I don't believe Lucifer is as bad as everyone makes him out to be.

Lucifer is far better than God. He provides a role model; He fought against an oppressive overlord who remained totalitarianistic over everything, similar to big brother from George Orwells 1984 who prevented people from thinking for themselves.

Lucifer shows us that you need to stand up and fight for you belief's even if you face a superior figure.

Yes. I totally and completely agree.
I am by no means associated with any sort of religion but he is truly not as bad as the church has always tried to make him out to be. I guess every "super hero" needs a "bad guy" and he was the one.
Of course I believe that the Bible is one of the best works of fictitious literature ever written, but only just so.

This thought occurred to me recently when I started a debate about Eve. What was her crime? Choosing knowledge over mindless ignorance. Satan's was no different. Even accepting Christian mythology on its own terms, it's obvious that their God is unjust, oppressive and tyrannical. He wants mindless obedience. He demands worship and prizes our acts of submission to him more highly than he prizes virtuous conduct. The paradise he offers is the paradise of servitude.

Satan made the right choice in rebelling against this tyranny. He is commonly portrayed as evil. Really? In what way is he evil? Do we ever hear of him sadistically murdering people for the joy of it? Do we ever hear of him demanding that one of his slaves murders his own child to show the full extent of his mindless submission to him, as we do of "God"? No. Satan chose freedom over slavery. He chose to think for himself rather than have his thoughts dictated by the tyrant. He is a hero in the mould of Spartacus, or William Wallace, who chose brave and, ultimately, doomed rebellion over acceptance of the tyrant's yoke.

As an English lit major, I am one of the handful of late- 20th century people who have actually read John Milton’s epic poem “Paradise Lost.”
The thing that struck me most about this classic is how intensely interesting Lucifer (Satan) was, compared to that simpering Goody Two-shoes Christ.
It is human nature to root for the underdog. Even in films, our favorite characters are “the bad guys,” not those in the white hats.
Lucifer fascinates because he is so conflicted. Basically a good guy gone astray, he differs very little from Christ, at least initially. We admire Satan’s heroic energy -- energy for a bad cause, but intriguing energy nonetheless.
Lucifer’s fall parallels that of Adam, and invokes the same pity in us. We can relate to Satan’s weaknesses, strivings, and inevitable defeats. He appeals to us in the same way as does Judas, as a mislead anti-hero.

All Lucifer tried to do was get rid of a highly prideful, vengeful, and evil dictator. Like the Allies going for the Axis.
The Bible is full of anti-Satan propaganda. What did he actually do that was so bad anyway. Freed man from ignorance? Taught him to enjoy his earthly body? -- How evil.
How did that song go;

"And the Lord said

I burn down your cities-how blind you must be
I take from you your children and you say how blessed are we
You all must be crazy to put your faith in me
That's why I love mankind
You really need me
That's why I love mankind"

Lucifer was not the one who tried to get rid of all the things that you mentioned, he tried to become them. Lucifer was the angel that was jealous of God and wanted to get rid of God to be more powerful than Him. And besides, where did you get the idea that God was highly prideful, vengeful, and an evil dictator.

Tbh, i wouldn't be surprised if the whole "tourtures people in Hell for eternity" is a smear campaign on behalf of God.
Besides, God created Hell!!

The crimes of "satan" in the buybull:

1. Suggesting Adam and Steve seek knowledge.

2. Asking "god" to prove Blow...uh, Job's "faith".

3. Asking "jesus" to think for himself while sitting under the baobab tree.

The alleged acts of "revelations" don't count because they haven't happened yet - as if they could...

Total number of people tormented or killed by "satan": Zero.

Now for "god":

1. Destroyed the world TWICE.

2. Destroyed "sodom and gomorrah" because they weren't friendly to strangers (it had nothing to do with alleged homosexuality).

3. Condemns billions to "hell" for not believing in "him", including those who never heard of buybull myth.

Total number of people tormented or killed by "god": Billions.

Who's really the evil one? And as we know, the winners write the history (read: Propaganda) who should we believe?

Adam and Eve got the knowledge of sin. With it, we as human beings were then able to make mistakes and sin. Believe it or not, snuffing someone out is would be immoral. God gave us free will, and therefore we choose to go to heaven or Hell. Please understand that there are levels of Hell, to fit the punishment. Most commonly agreed number is seven. Flames in Hell are supposedly the anguish of knowing you chose to ignore God, and suffering the eternal consequences.

God destroyed Sodom and Gamorrah because they were homosexual, as stated in Leviticus 22:18. Please do not make false statements about a book you do not believe is even true.

Lucifer rebelled against God, his creator, and that, according to the Bible, is the worst sin ever.

He is. He is smart. You have to consider thousand of years of expertise on the human race if you consider his existence. Most likely the CEO in a competitive system. Satan desires to be worshipped, At your expense. Why do you think he offered Jesus back the world if Jesus would just bow down to him then and there. He is indulgent and reckless. Systematic and tries to put consequences upon others. That isn't bad?

Lets get to facts I do not know what Bible Mythology you are reading but in mythology there is not fact behind it, the only facts that I know is God gave everyone including the angels choice between good and evil and he did not want the angel to bow to men, he wanted them to serve their needs, what happened to Lucifer is he became jealous he was the most revered of all angels, Gods favorite and he did not like that God was making a being in his image, Lucifer was only called Lucifer in heaven, when he was cast out he became Satan God created Lucifer to be sheer perfection, and now look at him iniquity was found in him, if I was Gods favorite why would I care about mankind, I am still Gods favorite, it was not about bowing to God, maybe God made mankind just to test Lucifer, we really don't know because we don't have exact written documents as to what God does and why he does it, I just know that Lucifer was a great angel but Satan is nothing but bad

If you do not believe he exists or the Bible is true then you can take any text that fits your description of him while rejecting any that oppose your opinion.

That said...I will only debate what I know to be true which is from the Bible. Isaiah chapter 14 tells the story of Lucifer and how he wanted to overthrow God and set himself up as God. God created him and that's the thanks Lucifer gave him. Later (chronologically) Lucifer, called the serpent, lied to Eve to get her to eat the fruit which he knew would cause her and Adam and their descendents to die. Revelation 12:9 says Satan deceives the whole world...in other words, he lies to the whole world. Later in verse 15 he attempts to murder the "woman" mentioned.

So, he is a murderer, a liar, a thief, an ingrate, and he hates all of humanity (that includes you).

If you want to follow him then that is your business but do not try to tell me he is a good guy or a descent fellow or just misunderstood. He is evil in its purest form and would love to lie to you to get you to believe he is a good guy so he can cause you to be destroyed in hell.

Just because I don't believe in Him or the Bible, it doesn't make my opinion any less valid and it certainly doesn't mean I will disregard any opposition.

For me to take your opinion to heart and consider it fully, ideally you would have to be atheist or agnostic, but I assume you are a believer in God, hence your words are heavily swayed with bias.

Because you beileive in the Bible and the word of God, it's easy to see where this biased opinion is coming from, but I didn't start this debate to prove people wrong, only to expand some horizons. Even if you don't believe what I say is true, can you at least accept that the Biblical Satan had noble intentions at heart before he was so harshly punished?

The Rebellion story can be interpreted in many, many ways. The most widely believed being that God punished Lucifer by stripping him of his rank and condemning him to eternal torment in a Hellish prison of His own creation.

Alternatively, God could well have feared Lucifer's influence. He could've feared that Lucifer would prove a better leader. A better God.

The Rebellion could've been a righteous one, an uprising againt a heavenly tyrant, but was covered up by the Bible stories.

There are many views. While it is a vital part of your religion to believe that Satan is the source of all the world's evils, he could've been a noble angel whose reputation was smeared by a jealous, insecure God, as is my belief on the matter.

Depending on your opinion of Heaven and God. If you knew a little more about Biblical mythology, you'd know that he rebelled for a number of reasons, depending on your sources:

1. God commanded the angels to bow to the inferior mankind after making them take a vow never to bow to anyone but Him.
2. Lucifer wanted to revoke free will so that man was guaranteed entry into Heaven.
3. He wanted to go to Earth instead of Jesus because he felt he understood humans better and could do more good.

He fell victim to Pride, as I'm sure that you have as well. He was more human than any angel and wanted to make life better for us, but went about it in a way that the 'loving' and 'forgiving' God didn't agree with. God is the bad guy in this story.
